"iTunes has stopped working" Problem on Vista

I get this popup everytime I try to use iTunes or plug in my iPod to charge. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, uninstalling, reinstalling an older version to no avail. This looked interesting until I realized that I can't even try that because I can't access iTunes at all in the first place to make those changes. I know some of my internet settings are screwed up from virus removal awhile back (my Windows can't search for updates either), could that have something to do with it? The problem is I can't remember for sure if the problem started when I upgraded to the latest version or after the virus removal, but I think it was after I upgraded to the latest version. Any suggestions?
