So, my cousin has a slightly older 30Gb iPod. I built a computer for her back in March, and iTunes never has recognized the iPod. I tried a hard reset on the unit, and I'm pretty sure I've uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes, can't really remember though. I can see it in Explorer, but not iTunes. Was this one of the ever-so-common problems with the older iPods? I think she got it a year & a half or more ago. Sorry if this winds up being the wrong section, I didn't see a 'portable media device' section

might be able to get more help from the apple section

try forcing a reset in disk mode: press/hold menu and center buttons until you see the apple logo and when see it, hold down the center and play button

Ok, I'll try that, thanks. Will the disk mode reset erase the content?

i dont know, i've never had to use it. i wouldnt think so since it's a physical hard drive in the ipod, but i also wouldnt bet that it wouldnt erase stuff.
i've been to the stage when the apple logo shows up but not further. all my songs were still intact
