It's official, straight from the XFX website, ATI cards in 2009

To add to your post:

XFX Adds Mad New Skills.

XFX, known for its high-performance NVIDIA™-based products, is pleased to announce the addition of AMD/ATI as a new technology partner. This new collaboration enables our R&D teams to work with a variety of new technologies, specifically the award-winning ATI Radeon™ HD 4000 series GPUs. We look forward to bringing you a variety of new products that meet your unique and specific needs.

Best of all, our ATI-based cards will come with all of the popular features that XFX is known for, including our unparalleled 5-Star support, access to customized drivers and factory overclocking.

Look for our new ATI-based cards in early 2009.

Sounds like an important annoucement. Hope AMD gets their face out of the gut with this partnership and starts kicking some rear.

Now I'm just trying to figure out what those bhudist/shaoling monks have to do with videocards :p

This is great news. I can wait to see what they bring to the ati table.

XFX has a lifetime warranty (for Nvidia cards), right?
They did last time I checked, "double lifetime" warranty.

If they carry that over to ATI then that would be very beneficial indeed!

They do have good suppliers its just that they are all the same, nothing to really "choose" from other then maybe additional demo's, software and tools (HiS' cheapo screw driver), I just choose which ever one was in stock.

As far as I know, BFG isn't locked into Nvidia solely.

The reason ATI shot down EVGA was because of their loyalty pact with their partners that stuck through the HD2k and HD3k series

I can't wait to see the mighty XFX HD 4870X2 XXX :) Hoping to see XFX GTX 295 XXX as well. That's porn naming..tbh.

I heard that Sapphire is really pissed about this and now they are considering to leave ATi for nVidia. j/k :p

I'm glad to see ATI gaining more partners. Especially big name ones. It will be great for us even if it only serves the purpose of turning up the heat on nvidia.

thank god, these other ati partners better roll out the lifetime warranties again.

know anybody who has kept a videocard for their entire life? or 3 years?

I am one of those people.

I've kept an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro from the time it was released to 2008 then got a new system with an ATI Radeon HD 3870. (Not the one in my sig... I haven't updated that in ages.)

I may upgrade it soon to 4850 or 4870 and leave it there, then upgrade my CPU to a Phenom 9850, 9950 or Phenom II (if my AM2+ motherboard is compatible with it).

Its said there are no dumb questions... but your pushing it...

I still have a working PC with the first videocard I've ever owned in it. And damnit if it fails I want it to be warrantied!

My sister plays games casually; she had a 7600 GT before I gave her my 7900 GTX (and put the 7600 GT in the family-use computer so they can play Morrowind on it now ). There are people who only play games now and then who don't need to upgrade often. :)

The lifetime warranty isnt the deal breaker for me with ATI cards. Its that ALL ati partners void your warranty if you remove the cooler. I'm not a mouthbreathing mongrel, i do konw how to change a cooler without destroying the card. So if the card dies due to a defect of some sort that doesnt crop up until months down the line and has nothing to do with me changing the cooler, i'm SoL. I'll be sticking to Evga for the moment, maybe XFX now if ati puts out another worthy card.

I AM a mouthbreathing mongrel, and I am offended.

Rough year for Nvidia. ATI's HD48X0 cards kick ass, they lose the king of the hill title for the fastest video card, I can go buy an Intel SLI board right now if I want, and now XFX is a double agent.

unfortunately you neglected to mention anything about dumb answers, tho. i guess i forgot about you and the thousands of other guys still using their first videocards.

I meant what I said as tongue and cheek rather than offensive so sorry if i annoyed, but yeah, the average user isnt going to be swapping video cards in or out or upgrading anytime within the next half decade. When building a computer for a non-OCD-upgrading type person parts that have a 5 year + warranty on them are a nice bonus.

my 9800pro fan finally died... /sniff Loved that card!! But with the 120mm I strapped to it's ass, it's still working and will go in my daughters comp (she's 2yrs old so who cares!) With a lifetime warranty from XfX, who knows what I could be getting back in it's place :D

I've heard of xfx. I know they got a lifetime warranty and you are able to transfer the warranty if
you decide to sell the card...therefore your card will maintain a descent resale value. This
basically eliminates the need for a step up or trade up,

Good news, never owned an XFX card but they seem to come bundled with good games. Also I'm in the process of getting ready to build a new PC with a black color scheme. Black PCB video card! I didn't want to go Nvidia so XFX making ATI cards will be perfect! assuming they make Radeon with a black PCB.

I bet Sapphire and HIS are sweating now. They might even have to practice ethical customer support policies to keep up!
