Itching to move to 1060 from 290x

Quick question guys... I found almost new R9 Nano for $185 locally.. Should I jump on this??
Yes. Noko a member here loves his in some games even over his 1070. Also it will be cooler and more powerful than your current card. I can not speak to noise though, haven't seen any complaints but that doesn't mean it is quiet. It is the FuryX without water cooling.

First that obsolete FuryX at times matches your advised 1070, so not too sure obsolete is a fair term, sounds more Anti-AMD-brigade. Second being the 1060/480 are virtually equal in real world terms, I am not getting the issue there either other than being a Nvidia-propagandist. Most if not all the AMD/Nvidia recommendations are within the OPs criteria. The reason for leaning toward the FuryX? Cost! That is the Only advantage over the 1070/1080, well other than noise which as I stated earlier is better than any card mentioned to date.

So in conclusion, What Messyn191 mentioned is the best conclusion and sound advice.

I wouldn't. The Nano is an interesting card, but it's not especially fast in comparison to other options. Also, all the reviews I've read basically said that, while it consumes less power than previous AMD cards, it also produces more heat than the standard cooler can realistically handle, so if you're playing long stints of games, you end up not running at full speed all the time.

If you absolutely have to have a cooler running card right now, at no more than $250, I say get the 1060, but if were me, I'd just live with the heat until I could afford something faster.

For that cost, YES, in a heart beat, do not hesitate. I would love to have been able to get two of those in mGPU setup at that price.

Edit: You can also undervolt the card at stock clocks which will improve the clock stability and lower the temps.

To answer the OP's question, I say that since it is winter, if the heat is getting to you just open the window. I wouldn't do any sort of side-grade right now just for heat/noise. I'd wait until we know more about Vega (still likely to come out in Q1'17). Plus that gives you time to save up some cash so that when Vega comes out you have more options. Depending on how Vega performs you could get either that or a 1070 or 1080. Those are my 2 cents.

I have that cooler on my 290X. I would not recommend it.

First, it makes the card take up probably five expansion slots. Three below, two above. Second, it comes with basically no provision at all for cooling the VRM FETs or memory, except for a HUGE heatsink that attaches to the back of the card. On the bright side, it cools the core super effectively and it's quieter than the stock fans that came with my Sapphire 290X.

Photo for reference. The T-shaped heatsink and ramsinks I had to buy separately.

I just went with the corsair water cooler on my buddies 290x. He has no issues with noise what so ever.
