Is there a piece of software that can tell you the expected FPS for games?

Lets say I wanna see how well my system will perform in BF 3 before I actually commit to buying BF 3, is there a website where I can test out my system and see what kind of FPS I can expect?

benchmarks by other people, ie [h] ocp does some excellent reviews as well as a myriad of others. Just use youtube, gtx 480 bf3, you will get a million hits.

Well I was looking for something more "official" than youtube but thanks

Then use any of the 10+ highly regarded tech sites like [H], Anandtech, etc. to look at reviews with the GTX 480 and BF3 in them. Anandtech also has a great bench database to search, but I don't think the GTX 480 is included in the 2012 set.

no toms has some freaky methods of doing benchmarks they dont max out their in game settings

What about Tom's Hardware are they a reliable benchmark?

They are reliable. Any of the big websites are good, just make sure to note the settings they use.

I find Tom's to actually produce lower results than Anandtech, for the same settings. Just find a website that uses a similar setup to yours and use it to compare.
