Sooo
is one 7970 enough for 5760x1080 gaming?
My pc:
Intel I7 2600K @4.5Ghz/1.28v
Asus Maximus IV GENE-Z/GEN3
Sapphire HD 7970 3GB GDDR5 @1000/1500
Corsair 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz Vengeance Blue LP CL9 1.5V
F1 runs on intel integrated graphics...dirt 2+3 are console ports... Try something demanding.
Try the same games with 470sli at 1080p and you can understand.
I agree......EyeFinity + AA = killer.
Just yesterday I loaded up Metro 2033.....5760 x 1200, DX11, "high settings", AAA
My jaw dropped.
One 7970 is not enough for that resolution. Who the hell wants to spend tons of money on top end end hardware and run everything at medium settings? Get two cards and do it right or don't do it at all.
That's exactly what I was thinking...That doesn't even make sense. Not long ago people were buying 2x6950 or 2x6970 for this resolution and game requirements haven't changed since then. People were definitely not running medium settings with their 6900 crossfire setups. A single 7970, heavily overclocked, trades blows with.either configuration.

Heck, many big name titles don't even need 2x6900 cards. Portal 2 and Skyrim can be run maxed out or on high with a singke 6800 card at 5300x1050 with more than playable fps.
Too bad Metro 2033 is unplayable in Eyefinity. The mouse coordinates don't scale properly, meaning you spin left/right WAY too fast and look up/down WAY too slow![]()
I'm very satisfied with my single 7970 and 5760x1080 gaming. I came from xfire 5870's and the 7970 is so much smoother with more eye candy.
My solution was to adjust the DPI independently on my G500.

I have one of these and I never noticed that![]()

Go into the Logitech software and you can adjust each level independently.
Yeah but 5870s sucked in EyefinityI'm very satisfied with my single 7970 and 5760x1080 gaming. I came from xfire 5870's and the 7970 is so much smoother with more eye candy.

I have 580 SLI and I find many games "unplayable" at 5760x1200 at max settings. I would rather play with more eyecandy than a wider field of view in many games, personally, so I usually only run those games on 1 screen. I would suggest two 7970s if you are serious about gaming on more than one screen.
Yeah, it's all subjective, and depends from person to person. But I like being able to max out every slider when I play (not necessarily insane levels of AA, but let's say BF3 on Ultra?) and a single 7970 won't do that at high enough frame rates. The things that make it 'unplayable' are usually something like 8xAA or higher.
I have no problem turning off MSAA and using FXAA or turning off ambient occlusion to get smooth performance with 3 monitors.
