Is my 3, soon to be 4, year old PC in great need of any particular upgrades?

I just ran down a laundry list of what's in it/on it, and here's that:


Case: Lancool PC-K58WBought in 2011
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-B3Bought in 2011
Optical Drive: DVD-R DriveBought in 2011
Videocard: 3GB PowerColor R9 280X Bought in 2014
RAM: 8GB (4GB x 2) DDR3 1333HzBought in 2011
Power Supply: XIGMATEK NRP-PC702 700WBought in 2011
CPU: i5 2500K clocked at 4.5Ghz Bought in 2011
Heatsink and Fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212 PlusBought in 2014
Hard Drive 1: 1.5TB Hitachi GST DeskstarBought in 2011
Hard Drive 2: 300GB MaxtorCan't remember, it's old.
OS 1: Windows 8.1 64-bit
OS 2: Ubuntu 64-bit


Off the top of my head, I might would want to get an SSD or something, perhaps? Or maybe a larger HDD? Anything else I'm missing here?
 
Get a Samsung 840 Evo 250GB or Crucial MX100 256GB SSD and you'll be set until 2016 at the earliest. Well maaaybe go to 16GB of RAM to tide you over until then.
 
I have similar specs to yours and I upgraded to an SSD and I feel like in heaven. Get a 240-256GB SSD they are cheap now. RAM is not cheap right now, but maybe get faster ram?
 
I'd say SSD and stick with what you have. I wish I would have kept my z68 & 2500k...
 
Even a super cheap ssd will make a huge difference.

I upgraded some old and mini pcs with 32gb and 64gb ssds and they made a huge difference.

I have a higher end Samsung 840 in my main gaming etc. pc but really the cheap 32gb ones are pretty good too.

Only glaring suggestion is the SSD, and a 256GB SSD can be obtained on sale for ~$100 USD. Your 1.5TB drive can then be used for the storage of data.
 
I have nothing to add except I'm still running a QX9650 system and last year I upgraded to an SSD and it's flying!!!
 
I also have a Z68/2500K combo PC from 2011 and added an SSD late last year. I'm not planning on upgrading for a while. Like Dangman said, till at least 2016. And it better be some serious improvements for me to upgrade
