Not sure if it's worth upgrading my 7950 GT KO with 512 ram. I play BF2 on very high resolution (2560 x 1600) and the FPS does seem a little slow at times.

Will I see much difference in FPS with a new card?

thanks

bf2 really isn't stressing compared to todays games.

I would say if you plan to get any modern games it would be completely worth it, especially at that resolution

A 9600GT would give a solid boost to your FPS without breaking the bank... You might want to consider it.

How about SLI'ing by adding another 7950GT KO?

The OP would be better off selling his 7950GT and buying a single 9600GT. From what I've seen, 7950s still go for around $90, so he could sell his for that much and then the $90 he saved by not buying another 7950 would be $180 total - just enough for a 9600GT :)

You're saying a single 9600GT will outperform 7950GT KO's in SLI mode?

Sounds like a good idea if that's the case.................

9600GT at 2560? Not a chance. If you have the money for the kinda monitor, get a 8800GTX. or a pair of GTX. or a single Ultra.

Yeah, I'm just looking at some 9600GT specs. Might not cut the mustard. I'm using Dell 30" monitor and it is awesome at 2560.

How would single 8800GTS 512 compare to 7950GT KO's in SLI?

thanks for help

I believe BF2 is a very cpu intensive game. When I had my Opteron 165 @ 2.7ghz and my 8800GTS 640mb it would constantly dip into the 20fps range even with some settings lowered. Now with my q6600 and the same video card running 16x supersampling AA it never drops below 50fps. So I believe if you are looking to get better fps in bf2, you should also look into another mobo/cpu.

When I upgraded to a 8800 GTS 512 from a 7900 GT SLi setup which was heavily overclocked, I got about a 10%-20% increase. That was when I was on a 4200 X2 (S939) @ 2.7GHz. So coming from that I would go for a 8800 GTS 512.

For BF2? Psh, plenty. If a 7950GT is only slightly sluggish at that res a 9600GT will blow through it.

From what I can determine:
7950GT SLI < 9600GT < 8800GTS.

SLI doesn't bring much in terms of gains (40-60%), so even the 9600GT will be a good bit faster than SLI'd 7950s.

If BF2 is all you play, a 9600GT should be fine

According to that, a single 9600GT averages ~70FPS @ 2560x1600 w/ 4xAA and 16xAF. The 8800GTS does boost that up to 89fps, but the 9600GT is certainly good enough.

agreed, 9600gt is averaging 70fps with 4x/16x at that res.Plus that card is silent, not burning up or making a hair-dyer sound like the 2- 8800gt cards i had. i just bought a 9600gt for my son's pc, evga $169, scores 13000+ on 3dmark06.

put money into cpu, mobo, and memory first.....you will see sustantial gains this way.

Depends on what games you play. But for BF2 you could see a boost in performance with a 8800 card.
