I've got a spare system I'm putting together and was wondering if an HX520 is enough to power an overclocked q9550 ( @ 3.6-4.0ghz) and a GTX 470. The rest of the system is minimalistic. 1 harddrive, one optical drive... Thats all...

Yep. 550 is enough to power any single card system that I can think of as well as most dual card rigs.

I have an HX520 right now running a Q9400 and HD6870, both with a healthy overclock, and a few other odds and ends. I've never had a problem with power. By most any account, I have a lot of room to spare, so I imagine you'd be fine as well.

TPU measured the GTX470 to abouy 170W at max 3D load. So with everything else you'd probably be looking at 300W average from the PSU or so.
