Is 4k monitor the same as 4x1080?

In terms of field of view, is a 4k monitor the same as setting up a 2x2 1920x1080 setup? I would think you would get more real estate such as programming and web browsing, but what about gaming?
 
Yes it's the same. For games that use an aspect ratio based viewport, 16:9 is 16:9 regardless of resolution, so you don't see more than you would with a single 1920x1080 screen.

For tile-based games, however(think Civ5 and some isometric RPGs, etc) you see a LOT more.
 
Gotcha. I suppose it depends on the game. Are there any games besides tile-based games that aren't based off of aspect ratio?

Not that I can think of offhand but there are a zillion different games out there and who knows what weird method for calculating the viewport some developers might have used. These are just the most common types of engines.
