I can't seem to find the right answer googling around :( Is SMB2 cpu dependent? how would one cpu fair (VM) when you enable more threads per a queue or add additional critical workers?

SMB does require some CPU however, generally speaking it's going to be tough to push a modern CPU, even a VM, with just SMB traffic.

If you're already pushing the CPU bounds then you could run into slight performance hits but if you have the network throughput to really be hindered then you probably have the CPU power to handle it...

If you're asking "will adding a second core increase SMB performance over multiple threads?" then I would say....depends on current loads and your total available bandwidth to begin with. If you only have a 1Gb connection then you're not going to see any difference as all those threads can't tax the CPUs anyway.
