IPS monitors repairable?

I've had this happen to a BenQ monitor (old 17"), the problem was a failed power supply. Open it up, look for a replacement on ebay, or just recycle it.

Yeah it's most likely the power supply. It's 10 years old, is that average life for a high-end panel?

The IPS panel is flawless, it's a shame to throw it away. What if I open it up, find the DC leads (12v?) and connect an external ac/dc adapter?
