iPhone 3GS not found in iTunes or OSX

For the last two days I've been trying to plug in my iPhone to sync with iTunes but every time I plug the phone in it does nothing; iTunes does not recognize nor acknowledge the iPhone. I have since plugged in other items into the USB port thinking that it could be it but it finds and uses a printer and syncs an iPod. I've looked at Apple's support with no real help. Was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem and how did you resolve?

FYI: Running OSX Tiger (10.4.11) and iTunes (8.2.1)

Maybe the cable is bad. Does the phone's battery charge while plugged into your computer?

It might be the cable. I had a cable that looked fine but one day just stopped working. Trade it in and my iPhone was syncing just fine.

I too thought it might be the cable but I tried the iPhone and cable in a Windows PC and it worked and it gets a charge from the charger with the cable but when plugged in my iBook nothing.

Restart your iPhone?

That was stupidly an easy solution, that worked. Restarted everything else but the iPhone.

I've had it happen with my iPod touch....
