I think this guy makes a lot of valid points in this article. Whether it is as bad as he makes it out to be may be up for debate but the points are valid none the less.

It’s the end of 2015, and one fact about the internet is quickly becoming clear this year: Americans’ freedom to access the open internet is rapidly dissolving. Broadband access is declining, data caps are becoming commonplace, surveillance is increasing, and encryption is under attack. This is not merely my opinion. The evidence is everywhere; the walls are closing in from all sides. The net neutrality victory of early this year has rapidly been tempered by the fact that net neutrality doesn’t matter if you don’t have solid access to said ‘net.

Freedom as a whole is declining.

Like homie said above, freedom is diminishing everywhere. It's not just an Internet issue.

I find it ironic that with the terrorists among us it's our own government that's taken more of our rights and freedoms away than the terrorists ever had. In promoting and fighting for "freedom" these same people are ripping it away faster than we can respond.

Look at CISPA. The American people, overwhelmingly, for the first time in ages, gave a resounding "NO!!!!" to it by the millions in forms of petitions, letters and emails to politicians, etc. We actually fought for something.

What happened? It's still trying to be passed. Like, for real? What do we have to do? What we say or want doesn't even fucking matter anymore...and if that's not evidence that we don't really have freedom left and that Democracy is dead then I don't know what is.

Well, the politicians apparently know better than the American people. So they were nice enough to slip it (CISPA) in the backdoor. If a once loved comedian tries that, he gets accused of rape. But these guys? No chance.

    Such corruption.

Ehhhhh I'd say Cosby being a serial rapist is a little bit more than just "trying to slip it in the backdoor". Analogy in my mind isn't exactly on point.

Now if you want to say Cosbys serial raping self is akin to our government that basically is in constant rape mode then I could agree along those lines.

I was going to say from what I've read it's not just the USA.

Sadly so many of the children/young adults will go happily along with all this since they don't know what it was once like. Never thought I'd get old enough to say something like that.

We have long been leaving the world of democracy for the world of corporate profit. Seems so many of those sci-fi books I read in the 70's and 80's are coming true. Ooops the thought police are breaking down my door got to go....

Just wanted to say that there isn't actually any proof, unless something came out that I didn't know about.... which to be fair, can happen as I'm not particularly concerned with it. Cosby is far from my favorite comedian, and it's stuff that supposedly happen years and years ago, which would've been the right time to complain about it because there would've been proof.

Now, back on topic. It's far from just being America. It's also far from just being internet freedom. Tough Internet freedoms are going quick, but that's probably more because it's a place where people can talk more freely and be heard more easily. So it's their biggest target.

Freedom? Freedom does not exist anymore, it is little more then an illusion passed off by the government. Until enough people are fed up with the bullshit and are willing to take up arms and overthrow the disaster we have now nothing will get better only worse.

We're transitioning to the type of self-perpetuating bureaucratic technocracy found in Europe. We're going to suffer the same terrible results.

The majority of people can't handle freedom anyway, so no big surprises in that article.

    Code:
    terrorism play
    noun ter·ror·ism \ˈter-ər-ˌi-zəm\

: the use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as a way of trying to achieve a political goal
Congratulations, you now correctly understand the entire reason terrorism exists: to scare people - and by "people" I have to lump in governments as well since they're comprised of said people - into doing things they don't consider "right" in the first place and dismissing common sense and reason en mass in favor of plain old human stupidity run amuck.

The funny thing is with that relatively simple definition of the word "terrorism" it's amazing how easily one can turn it around from the use of "the use of violent acts" to "the use of political power" which suddenly makes governments terrorists in most all respects in their attempts to eradicate terrorism itself.

    See how that works?

Then leave the EU and see what happens when Russia pushes you even harder in that very same direction but without all the fluff. Bulgarian here. It's global, I think.

The Internet is a goner. Hello darknet. It's going to happen.
