Intel Will Bring Additional Facilities Online to Improve Coffee Lake Shipments

Intel’s Coffee Lake launched six weeks ago, but finding the chips online has sometimes been challenging. Prices have consistently hovered above MSRP and availability hasn’t been 100 percent. That’s unfortunate - the Core i7-8700K is the best mainstream desktop CPU available in-market today — and it’s a situation Intel is moving to address. This should be good news for Intel fans that have been wanting to get a CFL cpu at close to MSRP. However, how long is it going to take to get more into the retail market? Here's the Intel product change notification.

This change shouldn’t impact consumers in the slightest, but it could mean a higher number of CPUs in the field, at closer to expected prices. As of this writing, AMD is still offering vastly improved competition against Intel - even with the 8700K launched, AMD has six spots in the Top 15 at Amazon and 8 spots in the Top 20. Prices on the Core i7-8700K are also markedly higher than MSRP, with the chip selling for $414 as opposed to $379.

How can sales be down and up at the same time? I thought overall pc sales were down due to people/businesses keeping their desktops longer. I wish My work had a waiting list to get a backlogged 8 series. guess ill stick with my work 4 series.

I'm still passively interested in a CL setup if I can get my hands on one.

Volume is down, but people/companies buy higher SKUs. While obviously also moving more to mobile.

Same more or less applies to graphics, people buy better parts.

Who would of thought that if you make chips for people to buy, and can actually get one, people might buy them. :)

This is good since it will hopefully bring the price down.

Now it doesn't seem to be, but before it was pretty bad. Like they had individual chips to each vendor.....

How much was it the vendor holding on to stock to drive up the price tho? On Newegg it would go in and out of stock several times a day.

That could of been to, but I don't know their agreement with Intel. I mean it does make them quite a bit extra money. Some people have 0 patience and wasting money is not a problem for them.
It is good business practice to exploit these people, IMO! $$$$

I heard from Intel employees that they aren't going to slow down this Thanksgiving and likely christmas. This is probably why.

Currently waiting on the 8700k, seems to be coming in stock more often but at 30-50$ over MSRP. Wondering if I should hold off after Thanksgiving and see if it drops down to the actual MSRP or if there's a good enough deal to snag it. 8600k is @ $260 now on Amazon when I checked earlier instead of $299 a lot of places are charging. Wondering if it'll stay there or move back up.

When I first read that, I thought you were talking cars :D
I'm still on an 'old' HP Gulftown workstation, so I'm actually curious when the next company-wide upgrade will occur.

Regarding CFL, I may consider the 6-core i5 once it's priced properly at Microcenter.
