Finally received a VROC standard key and did a bit of testing with my ASUS ROG Rampage VI Extreme. First and foremost, non-Intel drives are not supported even with the key. Both in BIOS and via the IRSTe app they show as "not supported". Testing was done with two Intel Optane 32GB modules.
First, created a RAID 0 volume via the IRSTe app:

Terrible performance at 4k low queue depth. Kind of the whole point of Optane / 3D-XPoint.
Next, the same two Optane drives in a MS RAID Striped set:

Note the latency and 4k performance differences. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Not sure what Intel was trying to accomplish here. And to think this was a key selling point of the X299 platform...
