I think the worst part was the performance and the lack of driver support for sure, (the drivers actually worked decent out of the box, but there was too far of an interval between uodates / necessary patches). A working OGL ICD Wrapper did exist and actually worked quite well however.

Yep. I actually had a long email thread with intel based on a forum post arguing for it to be released (or was that Rendition? Hell if I know, 20+ years ago). I enjoyed it for about 8 months then upgraded.
