wow, not bad for a retail drive.

i just got one of these as a birthday gift: it's so fast, almost unbelievable. now i want to upgrade my other computers with it... i still think we'll see some better deals before too long if we're patient.

Your right, I want one bad also, but I think a 120GB is the sweet spot. It can hold all of my apps along with a few games I play often. So I'm waiting for a quality one to be discounted.

This is a great deal on a Intel SSD! Not Kingston.

Just ordered (nice post).. Funny thing is, I have been searching reviews, benchmarks, and ebay for both this drive, and a 300GB VRaptor for the last 4 hours... I hit refresh @ newegg and saw this deal.. cheapest I found for sure. + my order came with a ICY DOCK MB882SP-1S-1B 2.5" to 3.5" SSD & SATA Hard Drive Converter - Black - Retail FOR FREE w/ FREE SHIPPING.. not bad..

Will be replacing my trusty 2x Seagate Bar. 320GB 7200.10's in RAID 0..

IYO, what % increase in performance should I expect?

I plan to use this as my OS drive, and throw in a 1TB WD Black for stoage (other than my external's).

it will be like night and day. raid0 is doing nothing for access times. ssds feel fast because of access times, not bandwidth.

i didn't do any "scientific" comparisons between my wd 640gb black and the x25-m as a boot / applications drive. in my unscientific opinion, it is a night and day difference...

Fantastic deal. Ebay the case if you don't need it, and the drive comes in well under $200.

I'm in. I missed the $220ish deal from ZZF, so $240 for the retail drive beats the current deals out there in my opinion.

Told myself I would hold off on getting one of these but... at this price, it's too good to resist. In for one. :D

Figures, I just bought a 120GB Vertex at MC over the weekend for $319 AR. Oh well, I like the bigger size. This is a fantastic deal though.

Funny how when Newegg finally has the drive at MSRP that people say it is a smoking hot deal. The only thing hot about this is that they actually have it in stock.

Yea ! i don;t understand what all the hype is about this deal at newegg? There nothing hot about it??? I paid the same price at mwave on thursday so this not a hot deal.
This the usual price. this would be hot if they knoced off like $20 bucks

I'm thinking you'll be waiting a while... :(

I have everything I need quick access to installed on the 80gb and I still have 50gb free. I know everyone is different, but I culled a lot of garbage when I installed Windows 7 on the SSD.

well yea but you have to pay up free and you have to apply for a $30 rebate

its a good deal if you need the ssd and a case i guess

what iam saying the price on the intel ssd is not a OMG shell shocker of a deal
its just the MSRP because they have been over inflating the price at $299

I picked up the combo.

For those wondering the deal is hot because it's newegg, it's the retail version, it includes a case, it's free shipping, and it contains a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter. Even if you don't want the extra stuff you can sell that for some extra monies.

Oh well i'm excited to try it out anyways, if you end up ordering use BING for an extra $7 back.

I agree.. it's not exactly a OMG melting hot deal.. but it is a "shell shocker" limited time, retail Gen2 in stock, cheaper than anywhere else (at the moment), with some freebies and free shipping.. Considering that many Newegg Shell Shockers are... ::yawn.. :( , it's comes down with a little more enthusiasm.

Did you notice the free icy dock and free PC case after a samll $30 rebate? The case could resold at a profit. You don't have to keep it ya know. $50 could be made on it. $239-$50 = $189

Too bad Newegg pulled their ads, or I might have gotten one.

I should really unsubscribe from their newsletter and send them a nasty e-mail saying why.

Under the combo deal you can get the Rosewill dual-bay converter for the same price ($239), just pay shipping.

So in the end, you could easily sell both hard drive converters and end up with a relatively cheap SSD. :)

I really want to do this but I just can't and I absolutely abhor MIRs. We'll see if I change my mind in the coming hours unless they sell out which will make my decision for me. :) All the stuff you get though... grrr!

There is no rebate on the actuall SSD, just if you want the case.

EDIT

The [H] deals Newegg had sucked anyway. I don't miss them here.

Personally, not a night and day difference for me. Two in RAID0... now THAT was a night and day difference for me. As a frame of reference, I have two systems, one with a 4x drive 'cuda.10 RAID0 array and the other with a VRaptor -- and imo, the vraptor was not worth the price premium over my caviar black.

it will be like night and day. raid0 is doing nothing for access times. ssds feel fast because of access times, not bandwidth.

... and small random write speeds. ;)

so damn tempting.... must resist.

word.

I thought MSRP was $225? But yah, the only thing hot about it other than stock is newegg is no longer price gouging, lol.

I agree on the Raptor performance. Some say the WD Caviar Black is comparable.

SSD vs Raptor

I go with the SSD. I wanted a raptor, but after I've seen the performance of a SSD, the raptor seems like a waste of money now.

FYI -- The last sale of that case on eBay was late September for $110

Being realistic.. if you get $70 for the case and $20 for the IcyDock that is still $90 off.

This is stupid. I can understand supporting a good cause or something but threatening a 1 man boycott of a retailer because they no longer choose to advertise on your hardware discussion website of choice is just so ridiculous. Enjoy not shopping at the best retailer for your hobby I guess.

It seems like Intel has overcome their supply problems, these drives are available from many retailers now. We'll see what happens after W7 is officially released. I expect demand to go up, but we'll see by how much.
