Intel Ready with Centrino 2 Laptop Platform

After a one month delay, it seems that Intel’s Centrino 2 laptop platform will finally launch on Monday. Expect product announcements from all the big names; Lenovo, Dell, HP, Toshiba and Fujitsu.

After a delay of more than a month due to issues related to integrated graphics and wireless licensing, Intel will launch the Centrino 2 platform during an event in San Francisco. A number of PC vendors, including Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Toshiba and Fujitsu, are gearing up with a series of new notebooks to coincide with the release of Centrino 2, formerly code-named Montevina.

Fucking sweet.

At the end of this month I was going to buy a Dell XPS M1330 upgraded to an Intel 2.4GHz
T8300 Dual Core with a GeForce 8400M GS.

Then I learned that all mobile and desktop 8400 and 8600 video cards are defective.

Then I was going to get a Dell Studio 15" laptop with an 2.5GHz T9300 and AMD 3450 graphics.

Then I read this news story.

Now I am going to be watching Dell and HP like a hawk for new 15" or smaller Centrino 2 laptops.

I learned that some people are guillible. C'mon, the G84 and G86 came out over a year ago. The scope of the problem seems to be what nvidia outlined last week.

45nm CPUs instead of 65nm that use less power and create less heat.
Newer mobile GPUs like 9600's from Nvidia

The 45nm CPU's put out the same amount of heat as the 65nm (both Merom and Penryn) ones, 35W

Intel revealed in a blog post that the Centrino 2 platform processors will run at 25 watts whereas the older processors ran at 35 watts

We already have 45nm CPUs. Centrino 2 is not about the CPU's.
