Intel Q8200 QUAD CPU $149.99 + $1.99 shipped !

what fsb can p35's handle quads up to? too bad we didn't leave behind the 7x multi with the e6300. if i can push 500fsb without excessive nb/vtt voltages, i might just grab one

on the other thread about q9300 for $109 (dont even bother) there were guys claiming 440mhz and up. but i have had 3 or 4 45nm quads and none went over 420 on p35, p45 or 780i.

Quads use the FSB more heavily than duals, so it's tough to push FSB, however the q8200 has a small cache (4 MB), so it should overclock the FSB better than quads with more cache.

XBit labs got 470 mHz on the q8200, while some people claim 500 on newer motherboards like P45.

But I'd only get this if you need a quad, and you need it now. :)

PS this is a repost btw, mine was first. :)

I have this and on both my asus 650i and 750i it only goes from 2.3 to 2.6.....but these boards probably aren't the best for overclocking quads.

still a good deal.

Yeah, but also I don't believe a lot of the overclocking claims.

One guy in the Newegg review of q8200 said he runs his at 3.96 GHz, using 475 mHz FSB. That's a neat trick.

they GTL voltages for quads are FUBAR'd on those boards. thats why the 680i A1 revisions were released. they never did it for 650i's. although, the 750i should have it. then again, only the EVGA 750i FTW is a good OCer for quads IIRC...

i may be wrong on the last part though.

I have tried many times to break 2.6 on both boards but I just can't seem to do it at any voltage so you are probably right EVGA ftw, but asus for 60buck open box.

that asus mobo sux for quads. I had a q6600 a few years back that did crap on that mobo, moved to intel p965 and worked great

My Q9300 does 454mhz FSB. It will run higher, but Prime 95 crashes. I'm only using DDR2 800 memory, so I'm already running 900+mhz on the memory 1:1. I'm not sure the CPU or the memory is holding me back.

a 45nm quad can do about 400-420 on a p35, 450-500 on a p45, varies a bit from mobo to mobo and of course it depends on the cooling used and the know-how of the driver
