Intel conducts a tactical retreat with mass of hyper-threaded processorsI'm so confused. Intel to battle now... or Intel to play catch up later with 5nm? It's like watching a Democratic debate on TV.
This is why people vote AMD.

Very slight improvment for your money. Of course if money is not an issue, and you can recover some from selling the 7700K core components....How is it a sidegrade? I'm just trying to squeeze a few more FPS out of my cpu bound games and from what I can see reviews are saying even an "old" 9900k would do that for me.
Upon further digging, it seems like the sidegrade would be going from a 9900k to a 10700k.
That said the article in this post said the i9-10900K could hit 5.3 stock, which is what intrigued me. That would be higher than any 9900k I'd get probably, and make the upgrade even more worthwhile.
No reason to sidegrade.
But you will probably be waiting for awhile for better singe-thread performance than your 7700k
Lol, so AMD please prices are nuts? They give you 16/32 for less than $1k... What did you do before they started offering such performance? You bought 4/8 for $400-$500 and where happy. Now you get 4x the cores for 2x the price and it's rediculous, lol. You can get a 3600x for a very reasonable price. You can't compare top end prices as Intel was artificially limiting the top end and still charging big margins. The top end AMD is more of a productivity CPU than a normal desktop CPU, and it often gets compared to $1200+ CPU's. I don't feel like the prices are out of line for what you get.Was talking about the high end. No competition for NVIDIA so their cards are nuts and no competition for AMD so their CPUs are nuts. This is why competition is important ... it causes competitive pricing.
What I mean is ... AMD doesn't have any competition at the moment in the CPU space so they're pricing their CPUs how they want now. I didn't say that their CPUs aren't worth the money.Lol, so AMD please prices are nuts? They give you 16/32 for less than $1k... What did you do before they started offering such performance? LOL, I think Intel is still competitive. AMD just has the DIY market wrapped up for the most part. It's not like AMD is in the position Intel was, when AMD was on Bulldozer. What I mean is ... AMD doesn't have any competition at the moment in the CPU space so they're pricing their CPUs how they want now. I didn't say that their CPUs aren't worth the money.
It's not the lack of competition, it's their willingness to step on their workstation profits to deliver something unheard of to the desktop space, but you still have to pay some extra $ for it. I paid $250 for my son's 6600k brand new. It has 4/4... Intel is on the same process (still 14nm) and is now offering i3's with that many for under $100.. I feel like AMD is giving us a lot more for the same costs as Intel and has forced Intel to do more as well. The fact that any time previously you would have had to purchase a dual CPU combo to get anywhere close to 16 cores, means the price of entry to that space is much less than it was. I don't feel like prices have gone up much, just that the top end is much higher up the scale than it used to be.What I mean is ... That makes sense. Now what doesn’t make sense is NVIDIA’s pricing. I wish AMD would make a dent in the top end there. It's not the lack of competition, it's their willingness to step on their workstation profits to deliver something unheard of to the desktop space, but you still have to pay some extra $ for it. I agree, I'm pessimistically hopeful. I don't think it's going to be like ryzen, I think this iteration will be a bit closer, the next iteration closer and eventually on par again. Nvidia didn't stagnate like Intel did, so they aren't going to magicqlly be able to leap frog. They need to fix their driver issues and be seen as equivalent instead of the cheap brand that people but to save money but know they aren't as good (or have as many features, etc). They are hoping to get 2080 speeds, hopefully closer to 2080ti... They are still playing catch up. I'm rooting for them though, I have 5 desktops with AMD cards in them, but they were cheap and I don't want to spend $1000 per desktop!!That makes sense. Now what doesn’t make sense is NVIDIA’s pricing. I wish AMD would make a dent in the top end there.

LOL, yeah. Those maybe the ones they used for LN2 benching.jesus he needs to use less paste or something those things are a mess.
Even if I clean them 1000s of times I'll still clean them all the way. Watching that made me twitch. He just seems not to care about cleaning cpus off after benching them. All his cpus have globs of paste all around the edges. That would set off my OCD, I always clean my cpus with som 91% IPA.
Neck and neck in single core and crapping on them in multi core. Seems to be the common theme here.https://www.notebookcheck.net/Exclu...too-far-ahead-of-AMD-Ryzen-4000.459690.0.html
LOL
Intel so far behind.
my i7 6700hq is feeling ancient, but I am not due for an upgrade until 2023.

Ancient because something faster came out, or ancient because it is no longer fit for purpose?my i7 6700hq is feeling ancient, but I am not due for an upgrade until 2023.
The Pentium 4 was never optimized for mobile use. As absurd as the idea was on the desktop, where it worked well enough, it was far more absurd for mobile. This feels like the Pentium 4 debacle again.
Don't be sad, every time AMD launches a new gen, the previous one will have a 75% price drop

Did you not like the amd combo? or what was the reason for selling/planning to switch back?well, i sold my 3950x, x570 motherboard, and ram, with the plan now of going 10900k when it comes out in a month. I loved my 9900k with TitanXP combo last year, so this 10900k and 2080Ti combo should be killer for games.. I actually am looking foward to this!
i like to try new hardware... I buy new stuff, play with it, then sell it off. after all, this is a "hobby"Did you not like the amd combo? or what was the reason for selling/planning to switch back?
Yep, I did the opposite. Sold off my 9900KF rig and purchased a 3950X rig. Love this hobby.i like to try new hardware... I buy new stuff, play with it, then sell it off. after all, this is a "hobby"

ME TOOOO! Just something so enjoyable about setting up the hardware, cutting tubes for water loop, installing pumps and radiators, and then hitting that power button for the 1st time and hoping it posts while crossing your fingers.. yep good times.I have more fun putting it together than actually using it.
WHERE IS THE PORKTIUM 10GHZ PARTY????? That's what I thought still waiting. And WHERE IS AMD's 5GHZ PART???? Yeah that is what I thought!
They're well on their way!By far the most interesting part to me, isn't necessarily the performance but rather the performance per watt. Or said another way: the battery life. I won't give spoilers, but for a lot of us using a laptop in general the mobile aspect matters a lot. AMD's battery life proposition changes the game.
I hope you power on the core components on the bench, before installing a custom loop.ME TOOOO! i have a binned 9900ks system and a 3900x both water cooled tweak high end , and the intel wins hands down in most if not all daily things i dowell, i sold my 3950x, x570 motherboard, and ram, with the plan now of going 10900k when it comes out in a month. So it runs IE 10% faster? What exactly and how much?i have a binned 9900ks system and a 3900x both water cooled tweak high end , and the intel wins hands down in most if not all daily things i do

Intel, your choice to make motherboards go EOL with each cpu generation has finally bitten me on the a**. Now I understand why folks have griped about this.
