I started 755 with a e5200 and it overclocked like a dream (4.4Ghz max), The E5400 is coming soon and is already stirring up stuff about its overclocking capabilities, for those who are on a budget, look no further, the E5200/E5400 would be your choice.

For those wondering about its cache, its the same 2MB as the e5200, but comes with a 13.5 Multi, Gaming wise cache does not that give much of a effect clock for clock. So this makes it ones of the best budget performers. Even amds 7750 can not compare

So, the 12.5x multi wasn't enough?
Is it really even a 'budget' chip?

If I were building a dual-core system, I'd choose the E5200 over the E8400, simply for the extra $100+ to spend on other parts.
The only downside, I see a lot of people complaining about FSB walls on the E5200.

Pretty much, its just gonna overclock a bit higher and maybe (hopefully) require less volts at higher clocks. I do consider it a budget chip, the E5200 is only 83 bucks, and can overclock like a dream, This chip will probably be about 10 bucks more than the E5200. Thats just my guess.

Ah come on. Lets be fair

Give them a special cooler too and see how it goes.

Special cooler? What do you mean? As for as overclocking goes, The 7750 can not compare, Price wise its the same as well (e5200, ud3r, 4gb ram vs 7750, 790gx, 4gb of ram).

Like i said, this looks like the perfect if not best budget buy for those wanting to get a inexpensive powerful system going.

how many people have vapour phase change cooling? thats what he means by special cooling

Too bad they didn't release it sooner...
I built three budget systems this year (~$600) all using the E2160.

It's a good processor, for sure, but doesn't compare to this Wolfdale monster.

Yup yup, i upgraded from a 3800x2 939 to it, costed 260 to do so, i was torn between that setup and a 6000x2, 790 msi board, and same ram i have now, and went intel and no regrets, im sure my posts sounds fanboyish but performance is performance.

I had it for a good month, running strong @ 3.8ghz and maxed on me @ 4.4ghz on 1.5V volts, with just amazing temps. Upgraded to a Q9550 after frys having a nice local deal and im set for anything coming my way this year. Its prob the same way i would of done it if i would of went amd, meaning 6000x2, to 7750, then phenom 2 when the 7750 started showing age, which would of costed more in the long run.

Enough giber jaber, hopefully the e5400 will be a bit better than its e5200 brother, 4.0ghz @ 1.3-1.35V on any stepping maybe? :)

that's insane, what is the voltage u pushed on the chip?

For 4.4ghz (355*12.5) was 1.525V. I did not push it further back then, and now looking at it, im sure the max i would of gotten was 4.56Ghz due to the fsb wall i was hitting (365).

The e5200 was an awesome chip for me, Clocking at 3.2ghz on stock volts (1.225), 3.8ghz (1.38V), 3.9ghz (1.412V), 4.0ghz (1.47V), 4.4ghz (1.525V). So pretty much under safe 24/7 volts my e5200 hit 3.9ghz, Keep in mind like i said countless times my e5200 was the oddball of the e5200 fam. It did on the otherhand do some strange fsb. Most people had problems above 333 fsb.

I hope the e5400 does not have this problem, and so far from what i have been seeing it has no problem doing 400+fsb.

Edit, Just got a pm on more info, it was on a lapped tuniq with a thunderblade keeping it cool, temps at 4.4ghz never went over 71C (65 is the comfort zone for me), Room temp was 55F

From what i have experienced and mess around with, the safe spot for most 45nm is 1.45V, Above that, you risk of degration and of course frying your chip early. I was actually talking about this over at xs, like i said, some people starting seeing it when they had 24/7 clocks above 1.45V. Most experience stability issues after a few months of usage, and the need to bump the voltage a few notches more.

All this depends on how well you cool your chip as well. I wish i had an extra mobo/ram around so i can test it with my old e5200 and leave it folding for 1-2 months @ 4.4ghz @ 1.525V and see what happends.

The E5200 sells for $84 on newegg and the E5300 sells for $99

I don't think the E5400 will sell for $93 but who knows?

I think Intel recommends using under 1.36V so maybe closer to 3.7GHz but it your chip is an exceptional one

Maybe, the thing that intel needs to do is keep the price under the e7200/e7300

First review i have seen is up, Just use a translator or just check out the pics.

So far, user previews, overclocks, have been at the same fsb zone of 413ish. Not bad. The review i linked shows that the e5400 does 0.30+ at the same voltage. Pretty decent.

How long do you think and willing to bet money on it? :)

So far my E5200 has been @ 1.475 bios for 2 month and still passes 35 ibt full stress passes (280 Secs each). I have been testing it out each week, Like sig says its on a lapped tuniq or typhoon keeping it under 65C. Im always gaming so its really gonna test it.

You, sir, have balls.
Even if it dies, who cares, $70 chips are easy to replace anyway.

Its not really having balls, if it dies, it dies, big deal, i might have a Q9550 waiting to get put it if it happends.

The Q9550 is gonna be sold to a friend once he comes up with the money, if something does indeed happen to my E5200, im gonna replace it with a E8500.
