Because they are almost always from Fry's and Microcenter and none are near me. Someone should provide a service for pickup and shipment for a small fee. Damnit!

The worst is the Rebates.....I mean really ......does anybody ever get money back?

If you want stuff that badly, I live within a mile of Fry's and Microcenter is a 10 minute drive. Shipping and the small fee might not make it worthwhile however.

Thatcan be annoying if you're not living near one of those stores, I think they do this to get you to visit the store and attract you as a future customer and that you probably buy other stuff since you're there. I rather buy it online

well... up here in Alaska, we don't even have CompUSA anymore.
BestBuy FTW

I miss the days of Computer City :(

Over the past decade I've probably done 150+ rebates and always got all my money back from them.

I'm only sick of the Microcenter in store deals. Closest one is 40 miles away and i'm not driving that far. Fry's is less than two blocks away. :p

Rebates are fine as long as you do a little research, and by that I don't mean reading what idiots write. Most rebates are fine, but a few companies are legendary for not paying. Avoid those and life sending in rebates is pretty easy. Another thing is if you happen to get a rejection letter. Don't panic or blow your top. In almost all cases a 5 minute (calm) phone call will resolve it on the spot.

I think people are forgetting Tiger's past with rebates. There most certainly was a time when they were WELL KNOWN for not fulfilling them, to the point they lost a favorable rating with the BBB and were under investigation by the Florida Attorney General.

My rebates with Abit, Corsair, and Crucial all went smoothly. I didn't even use that IP35-E board once (sold it to my friend), but yeah. My last two Corsair rebates, PSU and RAM, both were B&M from Microcenter. They print out the extra copy of the receipt, and I just scan my UPC code at home. Probably not even needed since Corsair is really great with rebates anyway.

its ok I DO live near these stores and rarely ever get in on deals

And this year I think I got 100% of my rebates.

I think rebates are great profit system for companies who do not honor them very tightly.

I never understood why they even offer rebates, they get the money temporarily and have to waste time giving it back anyway.

They do the rebates so they can get your information for marketing purposes. It could be they sell that information to third party companies to target you for spam and junk mail.
You know, the companies that think you don't have enough pre-approved credit card offers, hair loss products, viagra, or genuine imitation authentic certified "roleks" (intentional misspelling) watches. :p

...

Companies are required to back up rebates 100%. They put all the available rebate money into a "Savings Account." WIth that, they take the interest to pay back the consumers.

I don't have a Fry's or Microcenter within driving distance. Closest Fry's is like 6+ hours away.

If I miss out on an in-store deal, I'm ok with that. What gets me are all the +cashback +google check out +paypal coupon etc, etc deals. Like when someone posts a deal thats $10 off, but it's just a $10 paypal coupon that you could use just about anywhere so it isn't even really a deal...

I personally love those announcements, as my office is within 5 miles of both a Fry's and a Microcenter =D So keep them coming! IMHO!

of course lots of people get em back you just need to do them correctly

you have to keep in mind that rebates arent handled by the retailers but rather by agencys that the product's manufacturer pays to handle the rebates.

the way it works:

manufacturer pays certain amount -> rebate agency pays out -> customers that bought from retail

It would be nice if people put 'B&M' or 'In-Store only' in thread titles.

I've gotten all of mine back..sorry for your bad luck.

Same here. For the people who "never" get their MIR's back, that screams of user error.

I actually prefer to buy from a B&M when I have the option.

I get around 70% of them back, and for that reason, I don't like to rely on them when considering the purchase price.

I think we all know how rebates work.

I mention Tiger because they've burned me in the past, and I can tell you I triple check my rebate send in and keep a copy. They are one of the few places I will NOT buy something that's depending on a rebate.

OCZ, while they have 'less than stellar' forum support, have honored every rebate in a timely fashion.

i wouldn't mind a fry's in va. then i could hoard all the amazing deals :D

I sure wish there was one of those stores near me in WV so I can take a look at the motherboards(boxed or not)to help in deciding. Any one got a spare skulltrail box they don't need?? LOL

I had 3 last year, one from Lowes, one from Corsair, and one from BFG. BFG was the only one I haven't received yet after more than 2 months. I send them all registered mail and made copies of all the needed info.

I also wish we had a Fry's or Microcenter here. Just too small a town for them. The least they could do is include their store specials online.

Be careful what you wish for. The other day I ordered some items at fry's for in store pickup. I figured that ordering ahead would make it quicker to get in and out of there(the price was also cheaper online). Even though a few hours passed they never sent me the second e-mail saying my items were ready. They obviously had no intent of processing it on the same day. So I went down there later- like a an hour and a half before they close to make sure I could get my stuff.

Long story short the guy responsible for picking up the items for me was a condescending bastard that apparently thinks working retail makes him superior to me. He acted like I didn't know what I was talking about and that I needed to re-place the order and wait for them to process it...

The employees in the "will call" area had been sitting around in their cubicles doing nothing except saying "hey, quiet day. anyone else want a soda?"

In the end my persistence paid off as someone else saw what was going on and looked into it. The guys had tons of orders in the system that they had not even started to process. They were too lazy or incompetent to even attempt to do anything until I got there. They hadn't even been doing anything for the better part of the day. I finally got my items for the online price.

So, if there is not a fry's near you- be glad, be very glad. Their service sucks. Every other time I buy something from fry's they manage to screw up in some major way. I try to avoid them when there is a better option.

You are lucky some of you have that option at all ...

The only store we have in the Nashville, TN area is Best Buy ..

Everyone should e-mail Microcenter and Frys and keep asking them when they're going to sell the i7 920 on their website for their sale price instead of in-store only. Because neither B&M store is even located in my state.

Common Retail Practice --> Loss Leader

I doubt they will do it online ... loose to much margin that way!

Im with you on that because out of all the mail in rebates i only get like 50-65% of them back and i am cool with in-store only since i live 50 feet away from microcenter and about 3-5 miles from fry's :)

i have never not gotten one back...Im going on probally close to 20-25+ rebates

WTF, I never been screwed out of any my 50+ rebates. I just recieved 2 checks in the mail last week, one from OCZ and the other form Xigmatek. I have them in my pockets, thanks for reminding me to go cash them :p I build systems for people who want them and I get to keep the rebates plus a small build fee.

You my friend obvisously do not know how to follow directions. READ the Fine print. Fill the paperwork out before the deadline with all the REQUIRED details. Keep a copy of the rebate stuff and place it in a safe place.

I once had Panasonic try to renig on a rebate from a camera deal but recieved my goods after about 7 months!

While (probably) most rebate rejections are user errors, it isn't so all the time. I only have one example where I had a rebate return because the postmark was "past" the deadline. The rebate processor took the effort to return my envelop with the postmark circled and highlighted with a note stating that the rebate will not be fulfilled because of the postmark that was "past" the deadline. Apparently, the person processing my rebate couldn't tell the month order or something because the postmark was actually the month before the deadline's month (ex: June 20 postmark, July 10 deadline).

At least the rebate was a low amount from an already low priced spindle of cd-r's so I don't hold a grudge against rebates.

My local CompUSA closed a while ago and now CC in the same shopping center is closing too. Can't say i'll miss either. But I do have a Fry's very close. :p

You won't usually find CPU combos at Fry's site online, or most of the awesome clearance deals, but many sale items are on frys.com every week. Sometime the online prices are cheaper so I order there with in-store pick up.

The closest MC is 65 miles away (thought it was closer) sso those in-store deals are completely worthless to me.
