Images being resized (larger) in my thread

Why is the image I am posting in my thread being made larger than it is? I was specifically trying to make it smaller so that it doesn't take up as much space on the screen. The size of the image is smaller on my computer. That is, its dimensions in pixels. As soon as I post it in my thread, it's bigger. I open the same image from my desktop in an image viewer, and it's clearly smaller. Why is this happening? I thought it was the image hosting site, but I tried using two different hosting sites (photobucket and postimage.org), and I get the same result. :confused:
