Im looking to run gta 5 (vr) with a $1,000 cash(NOT INCLUDING HEADSET)

Hi, I'm new to pc gaming and thought maybe you guys could help me, as the title states im looking yo run gta 5 in vr, and run it to where it would look and feel pretty decent . I have a gtx 1070 in mind, a rx 2060 ect, how demanding is this venture? I would love some advice. Thanks.

Not sure if you have tried VR before but starting with a modded game not originally designed for VR might be a bit much for you to handle. Not sure how prone you are to motion sickness but due to the limitations of GTA V, the method used is alternating frames. So rather than both eyes being rendered at once it does one eye then the other (https://github.com/LukeRoss00/gta5-real-mod). I'm sure you've looked at the mod page but its worth noting that GTA VR might make first time VR users queasy.

Its possible to play unmodded games on relatively modest hardware but with modded games the more GPU power you have the better since framerate makes everything smoother and less nauseous. Many VR headsets have a refresh rate of between 90-144 Hz and have more pixels than a 1440P monitor. If you are looking in the <$300 range for GPUS like your posts suggests (1070 or 2060), I would probably recommend a RX 5700 rather than a 1070 or 2060 at that price point but the higher you can go the better if you are planning on playing modded games. Here is one for example for $270 after rebate and comes with resident evil 3 and xbox game pass (https://www.newegg.com/msi-radeon-rx-5700-rx-5700-evoke-oc/p/N82E16814137467?). But my recommendation is to get the best GPU you can afford for modded VR games even for say Skyrim VR. 5700 is plenty for basically any non-modded game designed for VR.

The R5 3600 is recommended by a lot of sites/people as the best all round value for CPU. You will want to pair that with a B450 motherboard (some may require a BIOS update). You can fit a 2070 Super in given the $1k budget. See the link (was $995 when I put the list together).
