Hello everyone and Merry Christmas!

I play a lot of PC Games, recently I've been playing World of Warcraft and Left 4 Dead. Unfortunately, my fiancee is getting a little sick of hearing the noise... And with speakers as crappy as mine.... So am I.

So, I've been looking for some good gaming headphones- preferably under $100. Something that will give me a great bang for my buck. I'm not an "audiophile", but it would be nice to have some gaming headphones that pull me into the game and make me say "WOW! That beats my $10 speakers I have now!"

The problem is, it seems that there are a lot of gaming headphones each claiming to be "the best", and I'm clueless as to a good purchase.

I would appreciate any help! Thank you everyone!

I use Sennheiser HD555s for gaming, and they've been wonderful so far. They are really comfortable for long gaming sessions and you really get all the EAX / surround effects from games. I watch blu-ray movies w/ them sometimes too and the clarity is amazing. The only issue you may have is that people can hear them if you have the volume loud. But otherwise, highly recommended and they're just about $100 - I think newegg has them.

Personally, I would rather grab the AD700 for $100. Better soundstage and more detail. Also sounds a bit more natural, albeit slightly bright, depending on your source/amp.

I have the AD700s based on [H] recommendation and I'm not an audiophile but I think they sound pretty good. :) L4D, RoL, Crysis, etc.

My friend has this pair of headphones

They are surround sound headphones, with 4 speakers per ear. If you have a surround sound capable sound card, these are good cans if you are looking for surround sound.

Also, the AD700's are open and will leak a little bit of sound. Not a lot, but if you are trying to read a book in the same room, it might be audible. If there is any significant noise in the room (TV) it won't be an issue.

Still, any of the phones mentioned thus far, AD700, Senn. 555, and the JVC's should offer you superior sound to what you are hearing through your current speakers.

Hope that helps.

As a general rule, surround sound headphones are pretty much crap.

The other cans mentioned in this thread are all good suggestions for <$100

SteelSeries 5Hv2. I have these and they are the BEST gaming headphones I have ever used. Mind you I said gaming headphones, I only use these specifically for gaming. For music and movies I use my Beyer DT770 Pro's. The nice thing about the 5H's is they have a built in mic which works really well.

I am actually selling mine if you are interested PM and we can work out a deal.

If you get the Audio-Technicas get the A700, not the AD700. Closed is definitely nicer for gaming (IMO). I love my a700s.

AD700s, A700s, RX 900 and RX 700s are good phones for gaming. but the AD700s have a somewhat lacking bass so the BOOMS! won't be as exciting. this is mostly due to the fact that they are open the A700s will have better bass but will lack the soundstage of the ADs. The JVCs are more all-rounders with the 900 being a semi-open design and do well in gaming and music.
