I am running sharepoint 2010 on a windows 2008 server. Internally, users would like to access it through the hostname 'webportal' vs through the servername 'server01'.
This was easy enough to do through a host record on our internal DNS, I also created a site binding for 'webportal' though I don't think it was necessary.
However, I need to take it a step further... When a user browses to http://webportal, it takes them to http://server01. They would like for it to remain as http://webportal through the entire browsing experience to avoid confusion.
Do I have the bindings configured wrong, or is this even possible?
When I create a new web site in IIS7 and give it the hostname of webportal, it works under that instance and retains the desired hostname.
