So I have a Asus STRIX Z370-E motherboard and I'm thinking about switching to the i9-9900k. Would I see a significant performance hit on watercooling? With it hitting 5.0ghz I probably won't overclock it much, except to bench it once and awhile. Or would I be better off just switching the MB as well?

Well the main concern most review sites have said are the VRM's not able to keep up with hungry overclocked 9900k. There is support but unlocking the potential is a different story and has not been recommended to mix overclocking the 9900k and the z370, moderate overclocking seems fine.

Its only 5.0ghz on the first two cores at stock (with turbo boost).
That being said you should see very little limitations if any using a 370 vs 390 board doing general OC'ing.

If you need/want the most out of the chip a z390 with good VRMs is needed.

Just make sure you grab the latest bios for compatibility (version 1002 or newer)
