Can the NUC do it? I'd like to get back to using a nice and small computer again but I'm about to make the switch to a single Seiki 39" 4k screen. I'm wanting to have basically a completely empty desk. I miss having a proper SFF but I'm considering just building an ITX.

Are the NUC's worth it or just build something?

In theory it supports the 4k resolution just fine (says so on the intel site). Just don't expect to be able to do much more graphically intensive things than playing video.

However if I read correctly either intel iris, the TV, or both, don't support that high of resolution unless you're at 24Hz or 30Hz. Fine for video, terrible for using as a primary display. Personally I do not suggest ever using a TV as a monitor for a computer.

Some software dev posted about the fact that his whole team got equipped with these. Apparently great for multiple windows of code :) He mentioned the typography looked excellent.
