Hello,

I have been looking at upgrading to a faster Intel CPU to replace my old AMD. I have been looking at benchmarks between the 3570K and 4670K and they seem to be roughly similar performance wise.

Though I am trying to save as much money as possible, and it looks like I can get the 3570K for about $20 less. On top of that, I seem to be able to find Z77 boards by MSI for about $80 where as decent (going by reviews) Z87 boards cost around $110. So I can save about $50-60 going with the 3570K.

My question is the 4670K worth an extra $50-60 over the 3570K? Are there other advantages that the 4670K and its socket bring to the table that the older 3570K lacks?

Well the 3570k overclocks better but 4670k has a bit better per clock performance. Should you pay more for the 4670k & Z87? IMO, no.

Personally, I would go with the 3570k and put the money saved back in your pocket.

HardOCP did a review on the MSI MB I think you mentioned. Check it out.....http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/09/10/msi_z77ag41_lga_1155_motherboard_review/1#.UkUKF6Hn_ZI

You could consider this MB as well from Asrock.....http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157297

Same price $79.99 after rebate on Newegg and it appears to have better reviews.

For overclocking I would probably attempt it, though I think 4GHZ would be about as far as I go (trying to keep temps/noise down).

Concerning OCing, does the 3570K need a voltage bump to get to 4GHZ? How about the 4670K?

If you go the ocing route you may want to consider a nice evo212 or something as inexpensive and efficient. Stock intel coolers suck a lot.

edit: unless you have something already.

I do have a Xigmatek Gia with two 120mm fans, so I think that should be sufficient for a low level OC (4GHZ?).

When it comes to getting both CPUs to 4GHZ, is one easier than the other?

I wouldn't know exactly but I would assume they would both easily hit 4. I had an I7 3770K for a while that ran at 4.5 @ around 1.27. It required a lot more voltage after 4.6. It needed 1.384v to run at 4.8. I wouldn't worry about it, you should be fine with either one at that speed.

Check out the review HardOCP did on ivy bridge. It looks like you should be able to achieve 4.5 with little effort while maintaining good temps. Beyond that who knows. Your cooler should be fine.

That is good to know. Anyone else think I should save and go with the 3570K or is the 4670K worth the extra costs?
