i5 2500k @4.4 -> i7 8700K @stock worth it?

Ditch that old ass SB. Life is better in 2018. I’ve got multiple 8700Ks @ 5.0 and things are just freakin fast. Not to mention all of the NVMe/Optane goodness on the Z370 chipsets.

The biggest drawback to an overclocked 2500K will be the thread count. If you had a 2600K the answer would be somewhat situational, but in almost every case the 8700K even at stock would be a big upgrade over 2500K @ 4.4Ghz

Agreed. When I went from 2500k to 2600k then 2700k (slightly better OC was trying to get more life out of current setup) HT did help but not as much as going from a 2700k @ 4.6ish to a 6700k @ 4.6ish! :D
