I'm going to order my X58 board within the next 30min. I'll leave the choice as to which brand I'm going to buy. Keep it under $360.

Take into account I'm a gamer and will be using GTX280!

I am kinda liking this one:
GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

Since you've given nothing that would require specific features of any given board: Asus P6T

evgaaaaaaaa!

30 mins...

get either of the Gigabyte UD5 boards

actually im a couple of hours late... :D

Well, I just came back from MicroCenter and I only chose to buy the I7 920. I'll wait untill the EVGA comes out since it seems to be recommended more. Plus the articles I've seen make it more attractive than the Asus!

I'm waiting for the MSI Eclipse+. Hardware SLI + 4 PCI x16 slots. Uber setup. Tri-SLI 55nm GTX280's + GTX260 dedicated for Physx.

I'd get the Asus P6T or wait for the Foxconn BloodRage :]

The Giga UD5 seems pretty sweet too, but I'm not fond of Gigabyte's horrible vdrop.

What is the best bang for the buck X58 board if I don't care about SLI or extra features, and just want a decent overclock on my i7 920?

Asus. Screw EVGA.

And why would you say that? Any evidence to back that kind of flamebait?

Asus RMAs suck horribly in my experience and alot of others.

EVGA on the other hand, has always been great, even when you look at their fiasco with the 680i boards. they offered free replacement with cross shipping. You ever see ASUS do that?

Ordered the Evga already through TigerDirect and got a little CashBack! Anyway quick n00b question.

I plan on eventually overclocking so which should I invest in.

G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666)
or
G.SKILL 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Also, is it worth it to eventually get a self contained water cooling system? Or are only the more expensive seperate units only worth the price/risk?
I'm using a Coolermaster HAF, will it fit?

If not, which is a good after market Heatsink for the I7? $80 max

I was kidding more than anything. In all honesty, I'm going to wait for reviews to come out before I make my decision. I really do hope that EVGA has a strong offering.

Self-contained watercooling systems are really not worth it. The best i7 heatsink right now is the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme with the LGA1366 mounting bracket. It should fit within your $80 budget.

Gigabyte board, one under the extreme model, because it has more functions and is under $300 on newegg. The EVGA board I saw looked like a reference board with nothing added extra to grab my attention.

I'd have to agree with this. The thermalright would probably be cooler than most "cheapie" watercooling systems.

I really like the build of the asus rampage 2 - but hate the price. Looks like the best x-58 sofar.

Evga looks like a solid board , slot placement is alittle different though- but the best part is the 'step-up'. I'm torn between these two boards. but leaning more toward the Asus brand.
