Since 2002 I've used the old Logitech MX keyboards. I had a wireless MX Duo, plus two wired versions, like this:

This is the only design I've ever liked. I've never had issues with key blocking, and I like the media keys and volume dial. The layout is spread out nicely. Are there any modern keyboards in the spirit of this keyboard's design? I definitely want backlighting and media keys. I wouldn't mind mechanical switches, but I typically prefer a softer touch. I don't want anything too loud/clicky. Absolutely no key blocking.

Assume a budget of under $100.

I think Cherry Brown is the best choice for me. Typing is more important. I also like a white backlighting. Red and blue are harsh on the eyes in the dark.

Seems like the K95 is it. Has white LEDs and media keys. Pretty expensive though.

Ha I've got one of those and older dell keyboards with the volume dial. For some reason using a dial for volume always felt more natural to me. Nowadays they're all buttons...

The volume rollers are pretty neat too, I prefer them to buttons.
Thats why I like the Corsair K50 over the K40.

hi... over budget but mention it has kinda awesome volume control and looks kinda kewl (checked it out at bb during xmas time).

Logitech G710 PLUS $130~ at BB or Newegg.

blah blah mx-browns so quiter than some mechanical switches (/cough /cough blue... gah so loud =p)

now for my part i have a WASD V1 MX-Brown keyboard with dampers like these (cheapest option i'm aware of)

and you would want a tool such as this

to put these on (takes awhile ...just so you know). but blah blah blah.. bottoming out noise is greatly diminished ... before I got a mechanical keyboard i didn't think they are that big a deal then I got mine and now I will never willing go back to a membrane keyboard again.
