A Dell Inspiron 1300 with 512mb ram, 1.7ghz pentium m, dvdrw, and all the other typical goodies. I really needed a cheap machine to lug around to class. No need for gaming on it but I'm installing Linux the second its in my hands :D

Is it still pretty easy to upgrade ram on the Dells? That might be the one thing I end up upgrading myself later on.

You usually just have to remove some sort of cover on the bottom with a screwdriver. Not sure how to do it exactly on your model but this is the usual procedure.

If you built your own box you can handle it.

Yeah I'm not really scared of taking apart laptops, I just took apart and put together some girls laptop a while ago, took it completely apart and my roommate did some solder work on the power connector. I've also taken my old dell apart, its just that I would really like to avoid getting down and dirty if I can ;) Looks like its about $80 for a 1gb stick of DDR2 for it too, kind of crazy that I could get 2gb ram on that thing for only $160 or so!
