...which has jack and shit to do with Nvidia.

    Rasterization isn't ready?

Yes, they're market leading, and yes, the 2080Ti is the market leading gaming GPU- which you can use to play games.

    Sure!

And they're still selling out, gotta love that demand!

2080ti is 40-50% faster in games I play than my old 1080ti ignoring RT and DLSS. Some of these posts make me chuckle. Let the butthurt flow through you, yes, good good.

    I like fast GPUs?

I guess some people like slow, hot, loud GPUs with laggy driver support instead?

    ;)

It also was far more expensive, went from 700 bucks to 1200 bucks or about 70% more expensive. So yeah you paid a butt load more for that small improvement and your stretching it with the 50% better performance. I hope for your sake that modified card of yours holds up cause I have seen quite a few failures for these cards so far and very few have a 2080ti, might be the reason it was mentioned in the news today.

Never mod something you can’t afford to replace. I learned that on [H] fifteen (?) years ago. It wouldn’t bother me at all. I knew the risks.

This is BY FAR the cheapest hobby I could have. Actually having games play the way you want is priceless.

Would I be an idiot to upgrade my 1920x1200 TN panel to something in 2560x1440 at 144Hz, sell my Asus 1080, buy a used 1080Ti, and hold off on a full system upgrade until Zen2? I'm currently running an i7 2700k at 4.5 GHz. It does what I need it to do for now, but I'm really itching for an upgrade.

It's not really a hobby it's more or less just entertainment. Also if you keep saying it's cheap I am sure Nvidia will help you out some more by making it far more expensive for the ultra high end, they pretty much figured out some of you will pay anything to have the best.

If they’d put out a 1,000mm^2 chip I’d hop on that like the town whore.

You're the only person I can think of that gives two shits what the chip size or cost of materials are and base purchase decisions around it.

Even if you staggered it and did 1 at a time, it would be more than fine. I have been using a 1080 founders edition on a 3440x1440 display for a while and its been great.

Perhaps I'll look into the monitor first and see if that satisfies me for the time being. Now, where to start on that...;-)

I base purchase decisions around performance.

Chip size happens to scale nearly linearly with performance. It is also a measure of gross margin and how hard you are getting screwed/resale value.

I don’t actually purchase until I see results. I am a black box guy. I don’t give a shit if it’s run on 12nm or AMD fanboy tears as long as it gives the fps.

I'm not sure that's true. You kept citing chip size and increased costs as to why it's worth paying for the huge mark-up of the 20 series in other threads.

Nvidia makes the best cards, have for years.
    Are the prices bullshit, yep.

Does bad press really matter? Meh. People buy apple products and apple is as filthy as it gets. You wont find a multi-million dollar tech company that isnt or hasnt been dicks.
Nvidia pulls some shady shit. So does your bank, your car company, your insurance, your phone company, your government, probably yourself.

I likely said something along the lines that these cards will never be as cheap as some people want them to be. Based on what we know nVidia would probably be breaking even around $699.

It’s not justifying buying it’s just reality.

Yeah but there's a huge difference between 700 and 1100. And hey maybe costs did go up 30%+, I haven't seen anyone actually confirm that.

For what purpose 144hz is necessary. Anything above 80hz is undetectable by the human eye. This whole market for 144hz monitors is built on bluster and not science.

144hz and even 240hz is better for fast FPS games. If you don't think you can tell a difference in game, well I don't know what to tell you. Going from 60hz to 90 to 144hz is a very dramatic difference. Going from 144 to 240 is slightly better, but not the great leap 144hz is. For games like CSGO it gives a good performance boost for tracking targets.

IIRC as you near your peripheral you can see hundreds of Hz and your black and white at the center of your eye is over 100.

I'm with everyone that has already said yes to a 20xx series cards with no ray-tracing option (just faster rasterization and DLSS). For me, RT at this point is meaningless due to lack of software support and by the time it's actually implemented in games in 2+ years from now, there will be newer RT hardware (i.e. 30xx or 40xx?) that will run it better anyway.

If AMD can come up with something that works along those lines next that will likely draw alot of gamers in their direction.

It's already implemented in engines, and will be in games this year.

From what I've seen - it will be in games at 1080p. So no ... not really.

Total rubbish. Put me next to two monitors running the same game, one at a solid 144fps and the other at 80fps. I’d easily and correctly identify which is which, every time. I suspect I’m far from alone on that.

  28. Well, with the 2080/1080/2070/1070 review, it looks like, unless you just GOTTA have a small performance bump, the 1080Ti still holds a metric buttload of value.

Or not. There are plenty of 144Hz IPS and VA panels, my VA does 165Hz.

Most people are running a TN at high refresh rates cause they dont want to pay the hefty premium for a fast refresh IPS and VA panels are kind of the go between, haven't seen enough of them up close to see how they do but I know they can have ghosting issues. Always amazes how much someone will spend on a graphics card and pick a crap monitor to pair it with.

My 1080 is still running fine i decided to hold off on upgrading until possibly next year although the lower pricing on a used 1080ti is becoming very tempting. I still think the best bang for your buck is a used 1080ti it is the best gpu per dollar those new cards are badass but too expensive.

I was deliberating between a 1080TI or 2080TI and I am glad went with the 1080TI. I will be happy for a year or so before I replace it. Want to see what AMD comes out with but may in the future go with NVidia.

The problem with AMD is that they haven't put out a card that can drive 4k games well enough yet. Once they do that I'll probably pick one up just because Freesync monitors are so much cheaper than GSync.

In the meantime I'll stick with Nvidia.
