So I am a very casual gamer - only play a golf game and the occasional round of bf4

I've had a Benq 24" for like 5 years and it's just worn out it's welcome. I have a 970 which is plenty for me (sorry to admit that here I realize this is sacrilegious) and I kept eyeballing a Dell 27" that kept hovering around 5 bills but never pulled the trigger.

Prime day comes around and I see this and it's on sale for $299 - I bit - I realize it's not gsync or won't wash my car or any of that stuff but for my use I feel like it should be way better than my current 24".

This is where you insult me or tell me it's not the worst idea in the world :)

for 299 it looks pretty sweet to me
let me know how you like using it compared to your 24"
I'm in similar setup now @24" and curious if 27/28" is too big for desktop use
 
The E version fixes lots of the flaws with the D version in connectivity, although still a TN panel with, as things go, a crappy stand.

The 28D used a hybrid PWM dimmer where above 30% it dimmed via DC but below 30% it was PWM...can't find anything on 28E about that topic.
 
Nice monitor for the price. As long as you can deal with poor scaling withthe those resolutions on a relatively smaller screen, you will be fine. Plus your 970 will struggle to play anything at native resolution.
 
You've got the right idea with 4k. But 4k on a small screen for anything other than games is insane.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, WinAeroTweaker. It solves almost all these issues of scaling. Also in the last week Microsoft shipped out an update that altered some of the scaling properties of windows for the better. At least for Enterprise LTSB Windows 10.

The old standard 100DPI looks like @$$ compared to 4K on a 32" or smaller panel when you WinAeroTweak it.
 
The TN thing does scare me but I'm such a casual user... I spend way more time doing productivity type stuff there won't be any movies (unless it's pornhub lol) etc

I'll give it a shot and if it's not a fit - Amazon is an easy return.
 
Update - got a solid line down screen.

Returning it and gonna be on the lookout again.

I don't need the predator type stuff but want good quality. I'd spend $600 for a great solution and I'd even upgrade GPU's from the 970 to a new one if needed.

Open for suggestions.

Honestly, buying any 4-megapixel+ monitor is a panel lottery. That many pixels, flaws (dead/stuck pixels, backlight bleed, and so on) and lemons happen more frequently than 2-megapixel panels. A line doesn't mean a bad product line-just means you got a lemon.
 
Pick up a used Dell 3007 or 3014 for 2-300$ on Craigslist. Still very nice 30" display.

With Windows 10 DPI scaling in Windows is actually a lot better than it used to be. It works perfectly in most programs and old ones that don't support it look ok as long as you pick a reasonable scaling multiple. I've got a Dell XPS 15 with a 4K screen and I like it just fine at 200% scaling (which is about equivalent to a 1080p screen).
