I think more like from walking up to a B&M store (probably MC) and buying it. I have heard of two people who actually bought one today online. One from evga.com, and one from amazon.ca. That's it.
 
So. There's scalpers and there's scalpers.

If I wanted one, and if it required standing in line for 5 hours to get (like FrgMstr mentioned with lines around buildings), then I'd pay someone MSRP +$10/hr or whatever for the product. That's not horrible. Now - doubling the price of the card...not so feel-good.
 
I tried at 6am, man all the websites were messed up. Did anyone see B&H actually sell cards? Their website was up & down for an hour but I never saw them open up to sell or change from the "notify me" button to sold out.

Literally anyone can do this with postman or soapui.

Get Fiddler and start capturing you're web traffic while ordering through a website you plan to order from. Order something cheap. You'll see the API end point where the purchase is sent, or in most cases several API endpoints. Look at how the payload package for the purchase is built and just us the ID/SKU for the product you want instead in the end point. More than likely you'll have to log in 5 minutes prior to get a non-expired authentication bearer token. Setup a script within postman or soapui to hammer those API endpoints with what you want to buy as it goes live. Takes knowledge on how the internet works, but not any coding knowledge to do it. Should only take someone that has knowledge on how to use soapui or postman a few minutes to set up.

Nope, was there and on multiple different sites. amazon, evga, B&H, nvidia.
it went from will coming soon to sold out.

the only one that showed in jiffy of a time was evga.

That is how it was for me. Except I had one in my cart on Bestbuy as soon as I could physically do it, but was unable to complete the purchase a few seconds later. I wasn't expecting bots to literally buy up all the stock in a mere second or two.

B&H still says coming soon for me, that's why I was wondering if they even had cards to sell.
 
I could of had a card today but it was at a ~$300 price gouge. Most Australian retailers are price gouging (maybe the distributors). Instead I’ve got an Evga card on order that I’ll hopefully have within a few weeks for it’s real price from one of the few good retailers.
 
how can someone with a straight face say this was a product launch went it never even gotten off ground.

Personally, it makes me mad in this day and age that online retail sites don't have bot prevention code as part of the check out items for hot ticket items. With lots of hot ticket items expected more this year from the RTX cards to the new consoles, they need to put something in place. Even a simple captcha that only is added to hot ticket items and allowing for 1 item per transaction/account, as well as no guest check out transactions for hot ticket items would have gone a LONG way in preventing a few bot accounts from buying up all the stock everywhere online.

Also, Nvidia should change the button on their office page.

My RTX 3080 just shipped from Newegg.

it’s supposed to be here Tuesday. Weird thing is that I selected next day delivery at checkout but it was still processed under (and I was charged for) regular shipping.
 
I would imagine that the boys will be less on the 3090 simply because oh how crazy expensive it is. Were previous Titan releases hard to get?
 
What a joke. Just got an email from the retailer that they cannot fulfill my order anyway because they just found out that they didn’t have stock after all. And they have no clue when that might happen.

I can only laugh at this bs at this point.

Don't worry, even though they had nothing to sell they'll still take 2 weeks to refund your money.
 
Didn't even think about buying one today, I knew they'd be sold out. Oh well. Let all the heathens scalp them. I'll pay the correct price when the time comes.

While they sold out fairly quickly, quickly use to mean an hour. I've ordered all of the Founder's Edition cards going back who knows how long, and never had a hard time getting them day 1. And the same with other people. Sure, the 2080TI was a mess in terms of replacing it a million times, but at least I had purchased it day one. And many other people on this site had too.

I've never seen a non-paper launch sell out as quickly as the 3080.

And the thing is, I don't understand the scalping of the 3080. If a person is willing to buy it for more than twice the price of MSRP, they might as well just get the 3090. And, as a person who was holding off for a 3090 anyway, this scares me, as there will probably be a much lower quantity available than the 3080.
 
People are missing the obvious here. NVIDIA doesn’t care if scalpers bought their entire limited inventory of 1000 cards, it adds to the HYPE & HYSTERIA of people wanting a 3080. This in turn let’s Jensen tell shareholders that NVIDIAs Ampere appears to be a tremendous success because look at all this media coverage and consumer craziness over their products. As a result, all the idiots on Wallstreet start rallying and buying up NVIDIA stock which drives its value up even further and NVIDIA becomes a wealthier company on paper without having any real quantities of Ampere on shelves.
This scheme will allow Jensen to get even more money to quickly pay off that expensive Arm purchase.

I personally saw several hundred order confirmations in tweets from bot script runners, and at 700 bucks a card, i don't think the money is a factor. If anything it will just mean more profit on markup.
 
Wouldn't it be funny if launch GPUs like this became like buying a boxed PC game at retail? You'd be all excited and ripping the box open when you got home... to find an online voucher to claim yours directly from Nvidia.... and the codes were only valid once and couldn't be resold... would the world end? I think the ebay flippers would still find a way....
 
What does NVidia do though to correct this problem? We're about a week away from the 3090 launch, and I'd rather not have what happened today occur then too.

Nvidia.com said they are manually reviewing each order.
