Last night I just gave my PC the works: Removed everything and wiped down all components, case interior, exterior and killed my last bottle of compressed air. Also installed a new HSF (Thermalright TRUE Spirit 120 from CM Hyper 212+) and new fan controller (NZXT Sen-Mix) - Hence the cleaning.

After a long and drawn out disassembly, cleaning and reassembly process (with cable management) I turn on the PC and what do I hear? An annoying humming (not too loud, but noticeable) which after disabling all of the fans and GPU and have isolated to be the power supply - not the fan, but the PSU itself. It's a bit off-putting to have a bunch of quiet 140mm fans then hear the hum of a strong power supply... I'm not sure if it just started or the sound of my uncontrolled 120mm fans drowned it out before.

So here are my options, I believe:

1) PSU ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703009 ) was purchased in early 2008. I haven't checked the manufacture date but it should still fit in the 5 year warranty window. The problem with this option is that I will be without a PSU for however long it takes to ship and process. Then I'll have to reinstall it and do ALL the cable management all over again. Dammit.

2) Get a new PSU. I just dropped 190 bucks on the HSF, fan controller, a router and a mouse, I'd rather not put another $120+ in a new PSU when the one I have works fine, but it hums. Although, it would make cable management easier instead of sticking/zip tying cables EVERYWHERE in the side panel. And with all the cables the PC P&C S75QB has, plus all the cables for the fans, it gets tiresome really quickly.

The only real options for purchasing for me are online or ship-to-store for Wal-Mart or Best Buy (double yuck) but they are still options.

So can I get opinions on which to do? And if option 2, can I get some good modular PSU suggestions? Setup in signature is current. Thanks!

Humming = Bad.

Transformers typically start to humm pretty bad before they fail. Get a new PSU.

I'm hoping it's just coil whine, but from comparing video and sound of it on Youtube (never heard coil while, actually) it is more of a low-pitched, constant hum. So I'm thinking I might do both options of RMAing and getting a new PSU.

This is what a transformer does after it humms for a while.
I personally wouldn't take the risk.

FALSE ALARM!

It seems to be a mix of several of my fans vibrating. Cut power from the fan controller completely and the noise went away. Disconnected fans separately and the noise went away. Guess I just need some anti-vibrating stuff... or better fans. They're all Xiggy orange 140mm LEDs or one CM R4 Green LED 120mm.

Yeah, you're telling me. How about a suggestion for anti-vibration kits? Just seeing the stuff on eBay and uncertain what to look for.

It could be your fan controller making the noise O:

My fan controller made extremely annoying clicking noises when it was connected to my R4 fans.

I wasn't sure which were better, gaskets or those silicone fasteners. I think I'd rather take my chances on the gaskets. Thanks for the suggestions!

It's not the fan controller. I've tested each fan individually now, and the noise comes straight from each fan. I'm thinking the plastics in those Xigmateks don't mix well with metal... don't know why they're just now vibrating so badly, though. Maybe I tightened the fans differently this time.
