Deals are all good 'til Dec. 8th.

As always don't hesitate to ask if there's anything Fractal Design related I can help with.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, guys!

*UPDATE*

I’ve just been informed that Newegg has modified the prices on a few of the above deals. I’ve gone through and updated the post to match. If we’re made aware of any further changes I’ll let you guys know right away.

Any chance the Define R5 blackout edition is going to be offered too?

Nice cases for sure, a little too Spartan looking for my personal tastes/use, but we buy a lot of workstations at work from a vendor that use the Define XL R2 for their high-end workstations and its a pleasure to work with, nearly silent too! Great design and engineering throughout.

Loving the R5 I got last Black Friday, and would also be interested in the Define XL R3 for my upcoming Skylake-X upgrade...

(hint hint?)

I know mods try and maintain a certain decorum around here, buy why was my earlier post deleted with no explanation?

Never EVER have a sale on the white window r5. :(

There was a really nice deal on it at NCIXUS.com about a week ago, but you raise a good point. The R5 White really should get its turn for a Newegg special. Not sure if there's enough time to make it happen before Christmas, but we'll see what we do.

It's mostly just a question of when and where. I couldn't say what's coming next, but both window and solid side panel versions of the R5 Blackout have been on sale several different times over the past couple months at Newegg, NCIXUS and Superbiiz.com. If you keep checking on pcpartpicker.com you're bound to catch a good deal before long.

I wish I had grabbed the Core 1500 when it was on sale a few months ago for $40. As we can see, it does not go on sale often.

I would buy in a heartbeat if that particular case was to go on sale! :)

As an aside, if you make an R6, make the feet taller. If the computer is on carpet (home use), it just sinks into it (and you've got that vent down there). I had to use a bunch of cardboard to raise the one I have higher (maybe make them adjustable, kinda like the levelers on a pinball machine's legs). Overall, however, I love this case (thus my desire to get another one). It's a nice replacement for the old Antech p18x cases.

I don't need any cases, but do want to give a thumbs up to FD designs and quality!

Or just go to Home Depot, and for $2 you can buy yourself a couple appropriately sized tiles. That's what I did, as they have all colors and sizes imaginable.

Good idea. I just tossed some cardboard under mine, but I think it'd make more sense to have feet that can coexist with carpeting

gottla love the fact that Newegg uses ontrac for delivery, worst company ever. Mine was supposed to be delivered yesterday, and now it's set for "re-deliver" on next business day. dafuq, they never tried to deliver it in the first place. chatted with newegg support last night and the added ontrac to the do not use for my account.

Sounds just like UPS (which was supposed to deliver yesterday....then today and now Monday). Companies just need to use Fedex or USPS. UPS is usless...never heard of ontrac.

its Black Friday/Cyber Monday overflow, happening all over, if packages get routed to certain hubs there's the chance they get bumped a day or more due to volume. It can work in your favor as well though, during the holiday season, UPS, FedEx, USPS etc. will just deliver packages if they are ready, like ship SurePost stuff if you already have a UPS delivery scheduled, ship on Saturday even if you didn't pay for it, that kind of thing. Can't complain, got my GTX 1080 FE BB price mistake 2 days early on a Saturday and got most of the weekend out of it, although another package got held up a day.

Got the R5 Blackout last time it was on sale at Newegg, very happy with it.

You can also use cinder blocks, paving blocks, etc. spray painted black to lift the case up off the carpet.

.

Love my fractal XL r2 so nice to build in

I just wish the built quality was a bit better.

That blanket statement doesn't work. It depends entirely upon your area. UPS is the best about being on time where I'm at. FedEx and USPS are okay too, but are late more often than UPS. UPS is also the best with handling packages in my experience. If UPS is constantly late in your area it's your drivers and the employees at the local UPS store.

Nah, trying to find Ontrac to call, the first few Google links included 2 for yelp, one here in SoCal and one in AZ and it's all the same shit. piss poor service. both get a 1 star rating, Comerce, CA has over 400 reviews with an average of 1 star. I'm not discounting the volume they are dealing with, and if it was my normal UPS guy, or USPS I would be OK because they are always on time or early.

I won an R5 from a contest, and I can tell you, it is by far one of the highest quality builds I have ever seen. The parts actually fit together and are functional. I will never buy a cheap case again after the great experience and ease of how everything fits together with Fractal Design.

Get some of those deals on NewEgg.ca, us Canadians always get shafted with crappy deals ;) ;)

What sort of issues did you notice with the build quality on your XL?

Kinda surprising to hear a complaint on that model. It's got to be one of the stoutest cases I've ever seen. We benchmarked the side panel with a 12 gauge shotgun at one point:

Well my first one i got as a present was damaged during shipping but a couple of the rivets was missing which looked like it was that way from the factory, but i could easily be wrong.
Not really a fractal issues except that the shipping padding in side the box was like you would expect it from cheap chassis. Nothing like the Antec P182
Then i got the second one which was only slightly damaged in transit. but decided to use it anyway case it least all the rivets was in it, and the damage was on the rear of the side panel.

but we can put that aside and blame it on shipping.

The top metal is curving downwards. its not a totally flat surface.
The paint chipped of from the corner very easily (I'll find the picture when I get home that i used for the review)
The metal plates and feel of it just felt not different from a cheap Codegen chassis. it wasn't bad but it was not anything special. Going form the Sntec p182 it definitely felt like a downgrade i material/craftsmanship.

Now on the other hand building in the chassis show a lot of thoughs in the design and I loved working in it. A lot more than i did working in the P182.
There is more room . It's a lot easier to pull the cords the right way. not to mention the nice customization options you have.
The functionality and design of the chassis was a lot better than the P182.

The was a few things here and there i wish was done just a little different to make it even better to build in . (like making the holes on the tray that holds the drive big enough that you can push a molex plug through it so you can easily have the cords totally away from airflow. but these where really no big issues. just small "it would be nice if they though about this as well".
I will say i was happy that it was so easy to remove the wires from the fan controller and that the fan controller was so discrete, because i always use a software controlled automatic fan controller.

In short it felt like its was brilliantly designed, but built with average quality.

But i might be biased coming from the Antec P182. The 3 layers composite panels just have a total different feel to it.
Its definitely not a subpar product and I would recommend it. It just the material/craftsmanship did not blow me away in any shape or form it was just... there.

oh. I did actually get in contact with Fractal to see if i could get a new side of the time. And they looked into it but needed a receipt (fair). but since it was a present I would have to bother my in laws again and i decided to let it go. so thumbs up for the RMA part.
