Amazon has the HTC Droid Incredible for $99.99 with a new contract.
The only similar deals I could find on here was $150 from Wirefly with $50 BCB.

How so? How much did you pay for your phone? what was the original price (before rebate)? I'm frustrated that existing users can't get this deal, but you have to remember, these "rebates" are incentives for you to renew your contract so you continue paying Verizon for another two years.

I'm currently about 7 months off from being eligible for the 'New Every 2' Verizon deal.

I ordered this phone for $200 last night. Verizon kept offering me deals to upgrade to phones like the Droid or this Incredible in exchange for another 2 years of service. I have no problem keeping the plan, since I get a discount that brings my data and voice plans down to a comparable price range with similar plans from Sprint or T-Mobile (plus it's 3 lines, and activation fees on other carriers would suck, etc. etc.)

Which is stupid. I wish there was a decent ISP that gave you reasonable pricing and exactly what you ask for.
If you aren't going to use data, they should be able to freaking block data access... Not just mandate that you have data access. They already had data-blocking ability. It probably cost these carriers more money to implement the verifications to make sure the plans have data before the devices can be activated...

What apps do you have that aren't on the Android system?

Well, I looked at the android marketplace, and they are lacking good apps for GPS, Astronomy, photography/video, movies, news, etc. But, I did not look extensively.

You realize the Apple GPS app (unless you're talking about turn-by-turn) is using the Google mapping, right? I don't think you'll see much difference there.

Astronomy/News I could really care less about so I can't really comment. I did look under the "Top" section and there's a USA Today deal...

As far as photos/video... What exactly are you talking about? Android supports photos and video just as well as my iPhone does.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find something the iPhone does that Android does not.


That said- obviously, more people make more Apps for the iPhone. Instead of a couple decent movie apps- you might have a dozen.

Looking at MotionX's page, I'd say the closest parallel was Google's own free MyTracks - I used it to map out our hiking trails and overlay it on Google Maps and export it to my Google account, with the same recording speed, elevation, etc. features. Also worked well for recording my running trails and point-to-point driving times/speed. It's a free app though, so I doubt it's as in-depth as MotionX's app.

There was also TrackMaster, which is completely ridiculous and awesome for car-related GPS activities. i.e. racing, racing and racing.

For astronomy, Google Sky Map is all I've used. It's also free and I thought was ridiculously cool - it's basically an enhanced reality + astronomy app.

Photo/Video, the built-in app is.. okay. The HTC one seems much nicer. I'm also using Vignette, which is a ~$4 paid camera app that has a much nicer UI and way more options than the stock camera did on the Droid. Can't find any good page for this one.

This is how they are making up for the higher cost of smart phones as well as pay for some of the cost for the new high speed data networks. I'm guessing they still aren't making money and clearly with the number of people still buying folks are willing to pay for the extra data plan to get the smart phone. Sucks, but we have no control over it.

I'm not sure if you have seen the turn by turn Google maps on a Droid. It is simple awesome. You have the option of overlaying the street map over it and it shows you the street view when you get close. Not to mention the voice search as well as the google search integration when you look for an address. It's free so long as you have a data plan and no more old maps.

It's awesome if you live in an area with street view anyway. I used it in Dallas once and it's very cool. Elsewhere, not really.

Via the normal channels like Verizon or their partners, I don't think you can get the phone without a data plan at all (Verizon doesn't let me do it without selecting one).

You can certainly get the phone without a data plan, but that also means buying it at full price without a contract. However, when you try to go and activate it, you probably won't be able to do it because Verizon uses the ESN to block smartphone activation if it's on a plan without data. I don't think there's a way to hack the ESN yet (I'd be happy to be mistaken).

If you want to use your new every two I believe it will be $150 from verzion after your $50 NE2 credit and a MIR for a $100.

Some verizon stores work with family plan members not primary account for certain deals too... go in to a store, talk to a real person someone while I was there got the primary account price on a family member phone swap.

Yeah, they should let you use your new every two on it. Amazon won't be able to use the new every two though. Has to be a corporate Verizon store. BBY can't use new every two either.

Your current contract is paying for the phone that you currently have and that is why. The cost of subsidizing your current phone will be covered within 20 months or 12 depending on your current price plan. Once that occurs, your eligible to get another phone at a subsidized price. In other words , your current phone cost considerably more than you paid. I hope that helps.

The reality is that if we all paid retail price for our phones, our monthly bills would be.lower and there be no need for contracts

I picked one up from bb yesterday, I stopped off at a Verizon store before hand; but they were sold out. The salesperson checked other stores inventory, and there were only 2 stored that still had one. Both stores were closed for the evening and I didn't feel like getting up esrly, so I headed over to bestbuy. They only had 2 available. The salesperson told me that she had sold 10 in two days.
So far I am pleased with it. It is quite speedy.

You can keep your number if you use Wirefly or Amazon, just be sure to sign up for new service before canceling your AT&T line, as number porting requires your old account to be active.

Yeah, but in 20 months the Incredible won't be so incredible anymore..

Thanks for the clarification though. I was always pretty fuzzy about how that all worked. I wouldn't mind spending $300-$400 on a phone if there was no contracts and monthly service was considerably less.
