HP Stream Mini -- any luck reducing fan noise?

I replaced my custom HTPC with an HP Stream Mini (Amazon.com : (Discontinued) HP Stream 200-010 Mini Desktop : Computers & Accessories). I upgraded to 8gb of RAM and a 256gb SSD,

Performance-wise, the device works great. At low load, the fan noise is near inaudible.

BUT, when load ramps up, the fan noise is terrible. I can hear it easily 50-60 feet away...

Has anyone had any luck replacing the fan? Or adding a fan controller? I'm half-tempted to just take the guts out and put it in a bigger case. But when I check temps with speedfan, they are really low, so I believe it's just way too sensitive with fan ramping up and I'd rather reduce longevity with higher temps if it meant not hearing that fan.

If you're happy with how it works, then put it in a more soundproof case.

I gather it gets hot and the fan spins up. Can you adjust the fan rpm?
