HP is releasing a follow up to its Pavilion Gaming and Omen monitors with HDR support and FreeSync. Unfortunately, it is only DisplayHDR 600-certified, which means it will normally provide only 350 nits of brightness. Still, the monitor may be of interest to gamers who are merely seeking a more affordable VA WQHD panel.

…the monitor supports AMD's first-generation FreeSync variable refresh technology. The 48Hz to 75Hz refresh rate isn't quite wide enough to support FreeSync low framerate compensation, but along with allowing at least some variability here, the higher-than-average 75Hz refresh rate does give the monitor an edge in smoothness over standard 60Hz monitors.

In my Experience you get Screen Door Effect on Large HP displays (especially 30"+) at 2560x1600, and this monitor is even worse being lower at 2560x1440 resolution, so I don't see this being a great gaming monitor unless you're sitting on your couch and it's 5 - 10 ft. across the room. For those looking for features (like the HDR) that don't want to use this as a desktop gaming monitor, jump aboard. Otherwise really find somewhere you can preview one of these from desktop distance if you plan on buying it.

Huh, I just decided upon getting the Acer Predator XB321HK. 32", 4K@60Hz w/ GSync. This HP panel is half the price, but half as nice . There's so little choice in the market place for high res, large NON WIDESCREEN displays with any sort of active sync tech out there.

How many rigs out there can actually drive a 4K panel at 120 or higher frames a second? I don't think their potential market would be very large. Hell, if it was my decision, I definitely wouldn't choose to bring one to market yet...

That display does look intriguing, but I'm worried by some of the reviews about screen flicker and other defects.

Plus, after using this Dell U3011 for so long, I'm ready to get away from IPS displays. The poor contrast and IPS glow have finally gotten to me. :grumpy:

One thing to keep in mind is, while the goal should certainly be the ability to run current and upcoming AAA-titles at 4k120, the ability to do both on the same monitor doesn't necessarily mean that you have to be able to do both at the same time in order to make use of the display.

For example, while I might not get The Witcher 3 running at 120FPS at 4k with the settings cranked, I could probably get it around 60FPS at 4k with prudent detail decisions, and have G-Sync smooth it out enough. Then, pick any lighter load game, and I can certainly game at 4k120 next.

For the OP: this HP is just silly. 75Hz max? 48Hz sync floor? This thing isn't even FreeSync2...

They still haven't surpassed their own ZR30w.

I totally agree and I'd love one myself, but still the market just isn't there in my opinion...
