HP 1810G-24 + an 1810G-24v2 = problems?

I currently have an 1810G-24 v1 switch and am in need of additional ports. My 10/100 switch is just driving me nuts so I figured I'd look into getting a second switch. I was doing some reading on both the 1810G-24 v1 and the v2 and from what I gather, V2 is a 3com design. I am wondering if there would be issues with me having a v1 and v2 on my network at the same time or if I would be better off with getting another v1 to maintain consistency.

Currently I use a virtualized pfSense firewall and have an ESXi all-in-one fileserver running NappIT and about 5 VM's. I don't use vlans yet but I plan to in the near future. Any feedback on this decision would be greatly appreciated!

The only think is the V1 does HPs proprietary STP while V2 has true STP. That shouldn't be an issue for you with home usage though.

You'll be fine mixing the two versions.

just a quick note, double check that it is a 1810G-24 v2

A friend of mine bought the 1810-24 v2 by accident!

Ahh, thanks for the clarification! So one supporting STP and the other HP's proprietary version won't cause issues? Also what if I want to use two uplinks between the switches to avoid bandwidth congestion? Possible? Problems?

Note there are actually several different models being discussed in this thread:

AFAIK the 1810G-24 is the "old" HP switch, which went EOL, but apparently is being brought back according to this link (news to me!) - probably because some people simply wont buy the 3COM lineup:

The 1810-24G (v1/v2) is the 3com version of the above switch. It has more features but is smaller (not rack-wide), a good and bad thing depending on it's placement. They have 2 more ports as well (copper and fiber not shared).

We've implemented a few of the 3COM models and they're fine, just as the HP ones are. It remains to be seen the lifespan/quality of the 3COM models, but they come with the lifetime warranty just the same. We're using probably ~40 of the 1810G-24's (and -8's) and 5 of the 1810-24G's in service.

You can definitely trunk 2 connections between the switches.

Thanks for the additional data obrith. I decided to jump on another V1 switch because I need the rack-mount, want to keep things consistent and I've had pretty solid luck with the first switch. Any particular things I have to do special to trunk two ports and have them act as an uplink? My plan is to create the trunk from ports 23-24 on each switch, then connect them to each other and hope for the best. Thanks guys!
