How worthless is Kingston ValueRAM?

I have a stick of CL3 PC3200 KVR, which I've been able to tweak from it's factory settings of 3-4-4-8 down to 2.5-3-3-5. If I got another stick that would in all likelihood be able to do the same, would I be able to easily push my FSB to 250mhz in 5:4 mode? I'm using an ABIT IC7 and a P2.4C.

If this is possible, it seems like this would be much more bang for your buck than using expensive Corsair or Mushkin RAM.

And lastly, how much better is 1:1 than 5:4?

5:4 mode would mean the sticks are running at stock speed.

Just crank up the vdimm and see what it will do. I've got a stick of valueram 2700 doing 166mhz at 5.2.2 just fine.

So I guess you're saying the RAM should easily support a 250mhz FSB at a 5:4 divider. What I'm wondering is if there's that large a difference in performance between 5:4 and 1:1.

When PC3200 was still new, I got 2 512mb sticks of Kingston PC2100 Value ram. I ran both sticks completely stable at CL2 2-2-6 BI 4-way @ 145mhz FSB. I also successfully got it to run 1T cmd and fast command without the overclock. CPU-Z showed both sticks as Nanya PC2100.

So for my needs, it's perfect? I don't really care about squeezing every last drop of performance juice out of my CPU; I just want a noticeable - and free - performance increase.

1:1 does perform noticably better than 5:4. I would strongly suggest saving your money and grabbing some corsair xms pro, or khx, or even ocz or mushkin.

Well the problem is that I'm looking to own a gig of RAM, and I already have a 512 stick of this stuff, so splurging on the Corsair would cost a hell of a lot more. How much extra performance are we talking here?

I'm faily happy with my 2 sticks of KVR 2X256 its the DDR 400 CL 2.5 stuff. It does DDR 400 @ 2-3-2-5 and 2-2-2-5 @ 333 I can get it to run 229mhz at 2.5 3 3 7

Worthless? I run 2 sticks of 256MB PC100 non ECC Value ram in my 1.4 ghz Tualatin server and it's great.

heh, my pc2700 valueram used to run 400mhz fine with only a tiny bump in voltage
