The drive I want is in stock, selling for $150 (about 3x what it cost 8 weeks ago).

I need 4 of them.

NE is limiting to 1 per customer. What does this mean? 1 HD per customer per order or what? What is stopping me from ordering the drive 4 times in 4 different orders?

Would you all buy now where this is stock? Wait?

Last I read they were forecasting drive shortages for the next year (plus). I doubt the prices are going to come down anytime soon. The companies that do have manufacturing capacity will be making some nice profits while their competition struggles to get drives out the door.

Normally you can just place separate orders to get around the 1 per limitation.

Yep. Ive done this several times on the egg...I keep a couple accounts on Newegg for this reason.

Well, personally I wouldn't buy something for 3 times what it usually sells for, unless I really had no other choice. As soon as I realized there was gonna be a big shortage of HDDs I bought what I could find for a decent price, it ended up being used drives (10*1.5TB 7200.11 and 8*1.5TB LP, all Seagate drives, for 940€ total, or ~35€/TB, when a new 2TB was 60€ before the floods) with one year or more warranty. Clearly not what I would have bought otherwise, I was only buying 2TB drives and expecting to soon switch to 3TB when the price/GB dropped to the same as 2TB drives.

I've tried this before and the additional orders were cancelled - I believe it's 1 order per 48 hours.

Yep, just tried. No go.

I created a different account, used a different card, and a different name at the same shipping address. But alas the same billing address for both cards did me in. The second order was canceled. I have to wait 48 hours.

Haha... That's what I did. A few days after newegg limited their drives and online retailers started jacking or limited purchases, I went to my local MC and bought out their 3TB drives at the price they had advertised for their Halloween sale. I now have 40 of those drives sitting on my desk now. :p
