I just bought a laptop online that's supposed to be brand new but I'm sketched out that it's not because it's shipped and sold by walmart.com, does anyone know how I can tell for sure that it is not a refurb and that it is genuinely brand new?

Would typing 'systeminfo' in command prompt be a good way to do it?

was it sealed in the pack? if it was refurb'd it will have new seals over old ones, or not and its just open, and it should have a brownish "refurbished" sticker on it.

Sysinfo won't give any useful info that would point to a new or refurb unit, as any of the values there would change or be reset upon a new OS install, ram addition etc...

But as pd1 said, the packaging/seals are a good indicator as soon as you open the box. Most legit refurrbers will apply stickers to that effect, but the shady ones won't...

However, in most cases, stuff that is sold & shipped by Wallyworld (or da Zon or other etailers (except da Egg'r)) are new items, unless clearly tagged otherwise on the listing....but there's always a chance some well-disguised refurbbed items could slip into their supply chain without them realizing it, at least not until they start getting complaints about them.

I've never had this issue with Wallyworld, but then again, I don't buy anything electronic from them online either :D

If it's shipped and sold by Walmart the description from the website should be accurate. If the ad didn't say refurbed or reconditioned or something to that extent I would think it's new. If it was a third party seller then I'd be much more worried.

if its refurbished, itll have a sticker but theres ways you can check, call the maker of the laptop and ask to put in a warranty claim, if they deny the warranty and ask for the original receipt its a refurb or a sold as new. you can also check the POWER ON hours of the Drives and the read/write status of it.

Hello. I ordered a laptop recently and the seller says it is new. However, I'd like to check if it is new or if it has already been used despite a Windows reinstallation. What is the best way to do that verification?
Read up through the suggestions posted in this thread.

was it sealed when you got it? as suggested, read the thread.

You can use SMART to get the number of power cycles and total runtime on the SSD.
