How to password protect files

I need to allow coworkers to view and print files but not modify or delete them. What free program can I use for this?

Hmmm don't know of anything free.

Share it out on a drive and set share permissions to read-only. But they'd still be able to save a copy and modify that, etc.

Use Office 2003 & Document Management / Rights crap.

Make the file a PDF.

The operating system should be able to handle this ( if it's anything modern ).

What OS? FAT32 or NTFS?
