how to make an image of a backup drive

i want to make a backup image of my external hard drive to have these files because drive is getting old and i don't want to lost all my files. what programs can i use to do this?

DriveImageXML and Acronis True Image are the two programs that are often recommended for making images. Choose one, Google/Bing it, and go from there.

You could use a cloning utility to make a duplicate of the drive, or use Clonezilla to make an image that you could restore to another drive.
