Hi guys.

I just installed a new hard drive in my uncle's desktop. The drive is a 320GB Western Digital E-IDE.

I installed XP Pro and it turned out that it was on the 'I' drive. Why did this happen, and what can I do to force it to install on 'C' next time (ie, today). I have already fubared the install by attempting to change the drive letter from the OS.

Thanks.

The only sure way to fix it to pay attention during the setup process. It shows you what drive letter will be assigned, so I never understand why there's shock and surprise at the end if it isn't C. Chances are, he has other hard drives and/or a card reader in this computer as well. Since it sounds like you need to do a fresh install again, unplug those other drives, and you should be using the C.

I have reinstalled plenty of times with his card reading devices and I have never had this problem before.
