The latest iTunes update (10.0.1.22) introduced "Ping" drop-down buttons on every track in your music collection. If you don't use Ping---or simply hate this UI change---here's how to disable both those buttons and the new Ping sidebear, which has replaced the Genius sidebar.

OS X Users:

Open Terminal, and type:

defaults write com.apple.iTunes disablePingSidebar 1
defaults write com.apple.iTunes hide-ping-dropdown -bool TRUE

Windows Users:

Open Command Prompt, and type:

"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt hide-ping-dropdown 1
"C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt disablePingSidebar 1

(For 64-bit Windows)

"C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt hide-ping-dropdown 1
"C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt disablePingSidebar 1

Ping can suck it. If I want online social networking, I'll get on Facebook. I mean it's one thing if you have a Ping account or whatever, but if you're like me and have yet to even touch the button under iTunes Store, it's incredibly annoying.

I'm fine with the Ping buttons, but the uncloseable sidebar can go to hell. Disabled it last night.
